Redhawks Fall 13-9 Friday Night

CAPAHA FIELD – Southeast Missouri Baseball (13-14, 4-1 OVC) fell to SIUE (9-18, 3-2 OVC) on Friday night by a final score of 13-9 in Cape Girardeau. Right fielder Josh Cameron led the Redhawks offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with two home runs in the contest.

Cameron finished with four RBIs and two runs scored as the Redhawks pounded out 15 hits offensively, but a nine run eighth inning for SIUE allowed the Cougars to set up a rubber match on Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings, beginning with a four run first inning. Second baseman Brooks Kettering led off the game with a single to right field, and Ben Palmer blasted a two-run homer to give SEMO a 2-0 lead.

An RBI double by Caleb Corbin down the left field line allowed Michael Mugan to score after his first inning double. A sacrifice fly by Cole Warehime gave SEMO a 4-0 lead.

A Ty Stauss RBI double and a bases loaded walk to Cameron put SEMO in front 6-0 after the first two innings.

Josh Cameron hit his first of two home runs in the fourth inning, a two-run shot to right field off SIUE's RHP Zeus Ponder to make it 8-0.

The Cougars recorded their first run in the sixth inning with an RBI double to left field off the bat of Gage Franck to score Lucas Spence.

Cameron's second home run of the game came in response of the one run for SIUE as Cameron blasted his fifth home run of the season to give SEMO a 9-1 lead.

Two SIUE runs in the seventh and then nine runs in the eighth gave the Cougars a 12-9 lead heading into the final inning.

The Cougars would plate another run in the ninth via a Redhawks error and the Cougars would hold on for a 13-9 lead.

LHP Haden Dow made the start in the contest. Dow pitched a near-flawless 5.2 innings pitched, allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out seven Cougars in the outing over 23 batters faced.

Game three of the series against SIUE is slated for Saturday, March 30, with first pitch at 2 p.m. from Capaha Field.
