Redhawks Set for Weekend Trip to Centennial State
Southeast Missouri Gymnastics will be on the road this weekend for a pair of meets in the state of Colorado beginning on Friday, Feb. 9 and ending on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Redhawks will be one of three teams in Friday's meet, hosted by the United States Air Force Academy and featuring Sacramento State. Sunday's meet will be hosted by University of Denver and will feature the Redhawks and Cyclones of Iowa State. The meets are slated to start at 8 p.m. (CT) and 2:45 p.m. (CT.), respectively.
Location
Friday night's meet will take place at the United States Air Force Academy's Cadet West Gym in USAF Academy, Colo. Sunday will be back in Denver, Colo. and will take place in Magness Arena.
Series History
The Redhawks will take on the Falcons of Air Force and the Hornets of Sacramento State on Friday night. SEMO holds a 17-3 advantage over Air Force, having most recently competed against them in the 2023 USAG National Championship meet. SEMO and Sac. State have faced off just one time previous, with the Hornets holding a 1-0 advantage.
On Sunday, SEMO will be reacquainted with Denver and Iowa State. The Redhawks trail the overall series with Denver, 7-1. SEMO and Iowa State will meet for the 18
th time on Sunday afternoon with the Cyclones holding a 12-5 series lead.
Redhawks Rankings
Through the first five meets of the season, the Gymhawks are currently ranked 50-overall in Division-I gymnastics. As a team, SEMO is ranked 49
th on the vault, 45
th on the bars, 53
rd on the beam, and 54
th on the floor. SEMO is ranked four spots ahead of Air Force (54
th) and Sacramento State (56
th). Denver is ranked ninth while Iowa State is ranked 22
nd.
Season-High for Crouch
Last week against Illinois State,
Sydney Crouch registered a new season-high on her floor routine with a 9.850, surpassing her previous high score of 9.675 (1/19). Crouch has been a staple on the floor rotation for SEMO all season, competing in all five meets in 2024.
All-Around
Sophomore
Taylor Ingle and senior
Lydia Webb have been the Gymhawks all-around performers this season. Ingle has a season-high 39.500 in the all-around category.
Lydia Webb set a new program record with a 39.575 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic.
Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri Women's Gymnastics dropped a heartbreaker to Midwest Independent Conference foe Illinois State on Wednesday night by a final score of 195.600-194.475.
Senior
Lydia Webb and sophomore
Taylor Ingle competed all-around for the Gymhawks on Wednesday night. Ingle finished second overall with a 38.850, trailing ISU's Angelica Labat who posted a 39.325. Webb finished third with a 38.650.
SEMO posted a 48.775 on Bars, 48.675 on Vault, 49.000 on Floor, and a 48.025 on Beam to close Wednesday night.
Bars
The Redhawks started the night on the Bars where they turned in a 48.775, led by defending MIC Bars Champion
Lindsay Ockler with a 9.800. Ockler has now scored a 9.800 or higher in three straight meets.
Senior
Lydia Webb followed just behind with a 9.775 for her Bars routine. Last week's Gymnast of the Week in the MIC finished second on the Redhawks on the Bars.
Kailyn Hamilton and
Janelle Lopez tied with a 9.750 from the third and sixth spots, respectively, in the Redhawks rotation.
Ava Johnston started the night with a 9.625 followed by
Taylor Ingle with a 9.700 and the Redhawks were off and running in Normal, Ill.
Vault
Juniors
Madison Greene and
Lindsay Ockler closed the Vault in the fifth and sixth spots with a 9.825 to give SEMO a 48.675 in rotation two.
Lydia Webb picked up another impressive 9.750 from the third spot in the SEMO lineup.
Janelle Lopez and
Taylor Ingle picked up a 9.700 and a 9.575, respectively, and after the second rotation, SEMO had a running score of 97.450 heading to the floor.
Floor
Sophomore
Kailyn Hamilton, who was a late lineup addition, led off the Redhawks Floor rotation with a stellar 9.750. Freshman
Jordan Napolitano followed behind in the second spot with her own 9.750 and the Redhawks were not done yet.
Sophomore
Sydney Crouch followed in the third spot of the lineup, turning in a season-high 9.850 as the Redhawks were well on their way to their best rotation score of the night.
Taylor Ingle and
Lydia Webb were next respectively, turning a pair of 9.775s as the Redhawks had yet to score below a 9.750 on the floor with Madison Green waiting in the sixth spot.
Greene would tie with Crouch on the floor, turning in her own 9.850 on the floor and the Redhawks, as a team, had a score of 146.450 heading to the final rotation.
Beam
The Redhawks and Redbirds entered the final rotation of the evening tied at 146.450, as the Redhawks turned in a 48.025 Beam score led by sophomore
Taylor Ingle. The Coppell, Texas-native turned in a 9.800 which is her fourth highest score of the season.
Freshman
Jordan Napolitano went just before Ingle in the fourth spot, turning in an impressive 9.725, tying her third highest score of the season on the Beam.
Sophomore
Ailey Kuehn turned in a 9.625 in spot three after
Madison Greene registered a 9.525 in the second spot.
Scouting The Opponent
Air Force
The Mountain West foe will play host with a record of 1-5, coming off a loss to San Jose State.
During the meet the Falcons earned a 48.725 on the beam for their highest overall marks of the day.
Freshman Clara Wallace posted a 9.800 on the beam for the Falcons' highest scoring performance of the meet. Wallace also tied for fourth on the vault with a score of 9.750.
Gabriella Meccia notched two scores of 9.750 on the floor and the vault for fifth and fourth.
Maggie Slife has earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week twice this season. Slife has high scores of 39.300 for the all-around, 9.875 on the beam, and 9.925 on the bars.
Air Force is ranked 54th in the nation three spots behind SEMO They average a score of 194.133 and their highest mark finish was 194.975.
Sacramento State
The Hornets enter the Air Force Academy with 1- 4 record, winning their most recent meet 194.675-194.625 against UC Davis last Friday.
Sac State's win came down to the final performance by freshman Athena Jones. After she re-performed her beam dismount, she finished with a 9.650 to give them a .150 lead.
Sarah Fitzgerald scored a 9.825 on the bars to win the event and post the highest score of the night for the Hornets. Rylin Zimmerman also placed first on the beam, receiving a 9.800 in the event.
The high scores on the season are a 9.8250 from Rose Wilson (Vault), 9.8750 from Kara
Houghton (Bars), 9.8500 from Jones (Beam), and a score of 9.8500 from Sarah Lutrel.
Sac State is ranked 56th in the nation having an average score of 194.090 and a season high score of 194.675.
Denver
The Pioneers currently hold a 7-2 record this season. Denver is ranked #9 nationally right now and their only two losses have come from #1 ranked Oklahoma.
Denver comes into this matchup coming off of a season high 198.000 against Towson. This was the second highest score in program history, .150 off of the all-time record. The pioneers also broke their bars record (49.750) and had a season high score on the beam (49.425).
All-Around Jessica Hutchinson won her fifth consecutive floor crown and fourth All-Around crown with a score of 9.950 on the floor and a 39.700 All-Around score.
Rylie Mundell, the senior All-Around gymnast finished right behind Hutchinson with a score of 39.600. Mundell finished first on the vault with a 9.900 and tied for first on the beam with a 9.925.
Denver has four gymnasts ranked in the top 50 in the nation. Hutchinson is the number sixth ranked gymnast in the country averaging a score of 39.610. Mundell is ranked 20th (39.425), Freshman Madison Ulrich is ranked 25th (39.395), and Rosie Casali is ranked 49th (39.192).
The Pioneers are currently averaging an overall score of 197.215 this season and their lowest score of the year so far has been a score of 196.850.
Iowa State
The Cyclones are coming off a 195.550 - 196.525 loss to #35 Boise State. Iowa State's record this season is 2-3 and the Cyclones score of 195.550 was their lowest of the season so far.
Freshman Noelle Adams had two 9.900 scores on the night, bringing her total up to eight on this season. Adams had recorded her 9.9 scores on the floor and the beam.
Josie Bergstrom recorded the highest score of the night for the Cyclones. Bergstrom scored a 9.925 on the vault which was a new career high for her.
Iowa State ended the night with scores of 49.175 on the vault, 48.875 on the uneven bars, 48.325 on the balance beam and 49.175 on the floor routine.
The highs on the season for the Cyclones are a 9.925 on the vault by Josie Bergstrom, a 9.900 on the bars by Laura Cooke and Lauren Thomas, a 9.900 on the beam by Noelle Adams and Lauren Thomas, and a 9.925 on the floor by Kaia Parker.
As a team, Iowa State is ranked 22nd in the nation and is averaging 196.215. The cyclones highest score this year was a 196.900 which was set on January 19.
