Redhawks Host Tennessee Tech Thursday in Second-Straight Home Game
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (6-15, 3-7 OVC) will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 8, when they welcome in Tennessee Tech (9-12, 4-6 OVC) in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m., CT. at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau. 
 
Series History
The 'Battle of the Birds' between the Redhawks and Golden Eagles will take place for the 51st time on Thursday evening, with TTU holding a 27-23 overall lead in the series between two of the longest tenured schools in the Ohio Valley Conference. Earlier this season, TTU defeated SEMO 76-65 in Cookeville, Tenn on January 13. SEMO is currently on a four-game losing streak in the series, with the Redhawks' last win coming on Feb. 4, 2021, in a 59-55 battle in Cape Girardeau. 
 
National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Thursday's contest will mark National Girls and Women in Sports Day as the world recognizes achievements made in the sports world by female athletes. At halftime, SEMO Female Student-Athletes will be recognized on the court and fans will be able to get autographs in between the Women's and Men's Basketball game(s) on the concourse of the Show-Me Center. 
 
Flowers Approaching History
Junior guard Kiyley Flowers currently has 138 steals in just two seasons at SEMO. The Raymore, Mo.-native plucked 87 steals a season ago, and currently has 51 entering Thursday's contest. The leader in the OVC in steals, Flowers needs just 21 more to break into the top 10 in SEMO history for steals. With 22 steals, Flowers would surpass Moneik Campbell (1996-99) who is currently 10th all-time in steals for SEMO (159). 
 
Green Machine
Junior guard Jaliyah Green is the leading scorer for the Redhawks, scoring 14.2 points-per-game, and is coming off a 19-point game against Western Illinois last Saturday. Green currently ranks ninth overall in the conference in scoring. With her 19 points, Green has now scored in double-figures in 17 games in 23-24 and is now on a two-game double-digit point streak. 
 
Backcourt Vision
The backcourt duo of Kiyley Flowers and Daejah Richmond have done a great job of distributing the basketball to their teammates so far in 2023-24. The duo is in the top-20 in the OVC in assists with Flowers ranking seventh, Richmond 17th. Flowers has 65 assists on the season, averaging 3.3 assists-per-game. Richmond has 53 assists on the season for an average of 2.5 assists-per-game. 
 
League Table
Thursday's matchup is pivotal in the OVC standings as the conference tournament is less than a month away. The Redhawks come into the Thursday's game tied for eighth in the conference (3-7 OVC) with Lindenwood (3-7). TTU is currently tied for seventh at 4-6. With a win, SEMO would be tied with TTU in the standings and would split the season-series. 
 
Last Time Out
SEMO fell on Saturday afternoon to Western Illinois by a final score of 70-59 at the Show-Me Center. 
 
Jaliyah Green paced the Redhawks offense with 19 points on 6-20 shooting, including 3-10 from three-point range, and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. As a team, SEMO shot 14-17 from the line (82.4%). 
 
Guard Kiyley Flowers chipped in a season-high 16 points for the Redhawks on Saturday afternoon. The junior from Raymore, Mo. finished 5-14 from the field and drained three, three-pointers. Flowers was also a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe. 
 
As a team, SEMO shot 19-65 from the floor (29%), and was just 7-27 from three-point land (25%). 
 
The Leathernecks shot 24-50 from the field (48%) led by Anna Deets who finished with a game-high 21 points on 6-12 shooting. 32 of WIU's 70 points came in the paint in Saturday's contest. 
 
WIU won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Redhawks by a 40-26 margin. SEMO registered 10 offensive rebounds, converting them into eight second-chance points. 
 
Defensively, SEMO forced 21 Western Illinois turnovers and converted them into seven points on the offensive end. 
 
Scouting The Opponent
Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles enter the Show Me Center sitting at seventh place in the conference after losing 53-65 to Morehead State in their most recent contest.
 
Guards Maaliya Owens and Reagan Hurst each scored ten points against the Eagles. Owens, the conference leader in three-point percentage shot 2-8 (25%) from deep and notched two steals and five rebounds. 
 
Senior Kiera Hill scored ten points off the bench with a clip of 5-7 (71.4%). 
 
Peyton Carter was all over the stat sheet last game scoring seven points and seven rebounds while assisting on four shots. The Senior shot 30% overall and 16.7 from three-point land.
 
TTU averages 68.4 points per game (4th in the OVC) and allow 66.2 PPG (6th in the OVC) for a margin of 2.2 ranking third in the conference.
 
The Golden eagles shoot 40.3% from the field for sixth in the OVC, 32.2% from behind the arc ranking fifth in the conference and are 75.7% from the charity stripe this season (3rd in the OVC). 
 
They also haul in 34.7 rebounds per game, dish out 16.3 assists per game and send back shots per game ranking sixth, first and first in the Ohio Valley.

Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10, when they take on Tennessee State in the final game of this three-game homestand. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m., CT. at the Show-Me Center.
