Redhawks Head to Eastern Illinois ThursdayÂ
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (7-16, 4-8 OVC) will hit the road for a two-game road trip beginning on Thursday, February 15, to take on Eastern Illinois (10-15, 7-5 OVC). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., CT. from Lantz Arena in Charleston, Ill.Â

The Redhawks and Panthers will meet for the 55
th time on Thursday night and will be the only time the two face one another in the 2023-24 regular season. SEMO maintains a 29-25 series advantage over EIU. The last time the two faced each other came on February 16, 2023, resulting in a 62-57 SEMO win in Cape Girardeau.Â

Alecia Doyle Career-Week

Alecia Doyle registered two separate career-highs over two games. Doyle tallied 31 points against Tennessee Tech (2/8) to lead all scorers in the contest. Two days later, Doyle hauled in 12 rebounds against Tennessee State (2/10) to help lead SEMO to a 48-47 thrilling victory in Cape Girardeau.Â

Entering the final six games of the season, the Redhawks are currently 4-8 in the Ohioi Valley Conference and are tied for fifth with Tennessee State and Lindenwood. EIU is currently 7-5 in league play and is sitting tied for third place.Â

The Redhawks defense has been solid as of late, most recently holding Tennessee State to just 47 points on Saturday afternoon. This season, SEMO ranks seventh in the league in team defense, allowing just 67.3 points-per-game.Â

Kiyley Flowers is the OVC leader in steals once again. Flowers, a junior from Raymore, Mo., has registered 57 steals over 22 games played, two more than Makayla Wallace of Lindenwood (55). Flowers is averaging 2.6 steals-per-game.Â

The Redhawks snapped a five-game losing skid last Saturday afternoon with a 48-47 victory over Tennessee State at the Show-Me Center.Â

Freshman
Indiya Bowen and
Alecia Doyle each dropped in 18 points to lead the way offensively for the Redhawks. The duo finished 11-29 from the floor and 3-12 from behind the three-point line.Â

As a team, SEMO shot just 29-percent (16-54) from the floor and only 15-percent from behind the arc (3-20). The Tigers were just below the Redhawks, shooting 16-55 (29.1-percent) and were 4-12 from three (33-percent).Â

The Redhawks did damage at the free throw line, including four clutch free ones down the stretch from Bowen and
Jaliyah Green to seal the deal. SEMO shot 87-percent from the line (13-15), led by the backcourt trio of Bowen, Green, and Doyle (13-15) who were the only three to go to the free-throw line.Â

The Tigers won the turnover battle, 24-16, converting them into 20 of their 47 points, but the Redhawks controlled the glass. SEMO outrebounded TSU by a mark of 39-26, including 17 offensive rebounds which they converted into eight second-chacne points.Â

Saturday's contest featured eight lead changes and was tied nine times.

Eastern Illinois
The Panthers are coming off a 105-103 quadruple overtime win against Morehead State. Eastern Illinois shot 45.2% from the field 39.1% from behind the arc, and 76.9% from the stripe during this win.This win ends a three game losing streak for the Panthers.Â

Junior Macy McGlone led the team with 33 points and had her school record setting 20th double double. McGlone also added 18 rebounds, seven blocks, and four assists.Â

Morehead State had four other players with double figures in points. Miah Monahan recorded 24, Ellie Buzzelle had 14, while Taris Thorton and Sydney-James Desrooches notched 11 and ten points.Â

McGlone is currently the OVC leader in points and rebounds this season, averaging a double-double with 18.4 points and 12.1 rebounds. She is also the conference leader in field goal percentage (50.8%) and in blocked shots with 49 (2.0 BPG).Â

Ellie Buzzelle, Eastern Illinois sophomore guard is leading the OVC in 3-PT FG%. Buzzelle is shooting 40.4% from deep and is averaging 2.5 3-Pointers per game with 63 total this season.Â

Junior Miah Monahan is first in the conference in assists with 121 this season and second in the league in assists per game (4.8). Monahan also averages 11.7 PPG which is the second best on the team.

Eastern Illinois is currently in sixth place in the conference standings at 7-5. In the standings the Panthers are right behind Western Illinois, Morehead State, and UT martin who also own a 7-5 conference record.Â
