Redhawks Fall Short in Close 2-1 Loss to Eastern Illinois

MATTOON, Ill. -  Southeast Missouri women's soccer (0-8-1, 0-2-1 OVC) fell to Eastern Illinois (2-5-5, 0-1-2 OVC) Friday afternoon by a final score of 2-1 in Mattoon, Ill.

The Redhawks outshot the Panthers 15-10 and posted more shots on goal, 6, compared to their four. Elizabeth Rater paced SEMO in shots with four while also recording one SOG.

Cayla Koerner and Alayna Jakul both recorded two SOGs apiece during the match. Justi Nelson registered the other shot on goal, her only shot of the contest.

Eastern Illinois found the back of the net first. Off of a pass from Kate Germano, Alex Tetteh would score her fourth goal of the season to put the Panthers up 1-0 in the eighth minute of the game.

The Redhawks would bounce back 16 minutes later when Alayna Jakul would put the ball high and to the left to even the game 1-1. Jakul's goal would come by an assist from Rater.

The Panthers would then score their second goal of the contest in the second half, which ended up being the deciding factor. Germano would record another assist and pass the ball to Abby Reinl, who would score and put the EIU up 2-1 at the 84 minute mark.

The Redhawks tried to rally for the final six minutes with Nelson and Rater firing shots on target but to no avail.
