SEMO Continues OVC on the Road Then at Home
Southeast Missouri women's soccer (0-8-1, 0-2-1 OVC) continues Ohio Valley conference play on the road against Eastern Illinois (2-5-5, 0-1-2 OVC) in Mattoon, Ill. on Thursday then at home against Lindenwood (6-4-1, 2-0-1 OVC) on Sunday. First kick is slated for 3:00 p.m., CT Thursday and 1:00 p.m., CT Sunday.

Last Time Out
The Redhawks fell to Western Illinois by a final score of 2-1 at Houck Stadium.

The Redhawks outshot the Leathernecks by a 14-6 advantage, including 10 shots-on-goal, led by Cayla Koerner who finished with eight shots with six of them on target. 
 
Freshman forward Alli Saviano scored her first goal of her collegiate career to get the scoring started in the match. Saviano rebounded a Koerner shot and slotted it past WIU's Ariel Bernard in the 13th minute, to give SEMO a 1-0 lead.

With just over 20-minutes left, WIU earned one-of-their-four corners in the match and this one proved to be the difference as Kayla Turner served the ball into the box and found the head of Rita Moran who guided the ball into the top left of the goal to secure the game winner. 

Five Redhawks played the entire 90-minutes of the match including goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink, Elizabeth Rater, Kristin Anderson, Ella Baldwin, and Koerner. 
 
Six Redhawks recorded a shot in the match, led by Koerner, as Melissa Kubin, Alli Saviano, Alayna Jakul, Katelyn Miller, and Zoe Houston all had a shot in the contest.

Series History
SEMO leads the all time series against Eastern with a 16-4-1 advantage. The series has featured 76 goals scored with 44 coming from SEMO. Overall eight matches have gone into overtime.

The last time these opponents faced was Oct. 27 last year in the OVC Tournament, with SEMO getting the 1-0 victory. The first time these programs met was Oct. 31, 1999 in Mattoon, Ill., resulting in a 4-0 EIU win.

The Redhawks have the advantage against Lindenwood with a 2-0-2 record. The last meeting against LU came on Sept. 28th, 2023 in St. Charles, resulting in a 2-0 Redhawk win.

The series has only featured four total goals but two meetings have gone into extra innings. At home against the Lions SEMO owns a 0-0-1 record. Their first ever meeting came in 2022 on Oct. 2 resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Scouting Eastern Illinois
The Panthers come into the match with a 0-1-2 OVC record with a 1-5 loss to Morehead State and ties against Lindenwood (0-0) and the Southern Indiana (1-1). 

Against the Screaming Eagles, EIU notched nine shots with two being on target. Goal Keeper Ella Kratochvil made her second start posting five saves.

Forward Abby Reinl scored the lone goal in the contest. Reinl leads the team in goals with three and SOGs with 11 from 17 shots (64.7% SOG) while ranking tenth in the OVC in goals and SOGs.

Alex Tettah also has put three in the net for the Panthers from seven shots on goal and 20 shots with a shooting clip of .150.

Goal keeper Ashlyn Hoover has started ten games in the net for EIU. The Redshirt Sophomore has played 900 minutes, posting 39 saves with a .684 save percentage.

The panthers have nine goals scored compared to their opponents with 19. EIU has recorded 98 shots, putting 46 on target and tallied six total assists.

In the Ohio Valley EIU ranks ninth in shots, eighth in goals and assists, fourth in goals allowed and sixth in saves.

Head coach Dirk Bennett is in his second season as head coach for the 2024 season. He led the team to an OVC Tournament appearance in 2023 and finished fifth in OVC standings.

Scouting Lindenwood
The Lions come to town without a loss in conference play with a record of 2-0-1. Lindenwood has an overall record of 6-4-1, recently beat SIUE last Sunday 2-0. 

Against SIUE, Sophomores Anna Johnson and Allison Schrumpf were the two goal scorers for the Lions. To go along with her goal Johnson had three shots and one SOG. Johnson now leads the team with three goals on the year ranking fifth in the OVC.

Schrumpf's goal was her only shot of the contest and it was her first goal of the year. Her goal was assisted by Lily Sutter. Sutter now has two assists on the season. 

Lindenwood's freshman goalie Caroline Ritter had six saves during the contest and faced nine shots. In the OVC Ritter ranks second in goals against average (.863), second in save percentage (.821), second in goals allowed (5), and second in shutouts with three so far this season. 

Mackenzie Compton the freshman forward leads the Lions in shots and shots on goal. Compton has 29 shots (3rd OVC), 15 shots on goal (5th OVC), and three assists (5th OVC).

As a team Lindenwood has recorded 128 shots (11.64 per game), 60 shots on goal (5.45 per game), seven assists, and 13 goals.

Dave Musso is in his seventh season coaching the Lions. With Lindewood Musso has a 15-25-8 record since moving up to Division 1. Already this season the Lions have tied their most wins in a season in the OVC and overall. 

The Lions currently sit in first place in the conference standings right in front of Little Rock who also has a 2-0-1 OVC record.

After Lindenwood, the Redhawks have a week break before they face Little Rock on the road Sunday, Oct. 13th.
