Gymnastics Set for First Home Meet of 2024 Friday Night Against Centenary
Southeast Missouri Gymnastics (0-2-1) will host fellow Midwest Independent Conference member Centenary (0-0) for the first home meet of the 2024 season. Competition is slated to begin on Friday, January 12, at 6:30 p.m., CT. from Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau.Â

Series History
Friday's competition will mark the 64
th time that these two MIC foes have squared off against one another in gymnastics as SEMO has dominated the series. The Redhawks hold a 56-7 advantage over Centenary in the programs' history. In two meetings with the Ladies in 2023, SEMO started the year and ended the year with victories over Centenary.Â

The Redhawks won 193.350-189.825 in the second meet of the season in Houck Field House. SEMO then faced the Ladies in the Midwest Independent Conference Championship meet, this one held in Cape Girardeau as well, and won 195.525-188.875.Â

Redhawks Debut
Last weekend at the Mizzou Invitational, several Gymhawks made their SEMO debut in live competition. Sophomores
Sydney Crouch,
Kailyn Hamilton, and
Ailey Kuehn all played pivotal roles in the lineup(s) throughout the night for Head Coach
Ashley Lawson.Â

Hamilton registered a 9.675 on the Bars for her highest score of the evening. Crouch went for a 9.400 on the floor routine, her first score that would count in a Redhawks uniform. Kuehn finished with a 9.600 on the Vault for her highest score of the meet.Â

Freshmen
Jordan Napolitano and
Ava Johnston made their first collegiate competition debut in the meet. Napolitano competed on three-out-of-four events at Missouri. Johnston led off the fourth and final rotation, scoring a 9.550 on the Bars.Â

Napolitano registered a 9.725 on her first collegiate floor routine, a 9.625, and a 9.025 on the Vault and bars, respectively, to round out her day.Â

All-Around Webb
Senior
Lydia Webb began her 2024 campaign as the lone Redhawk to compete All-Around last Saturday night. Webb turned in a 38.825 after all four rotations, giving her a second-place finish overall in the meet for that category. Missouri's Sienna Schreiber (39.400) finished first. Webb's best score of the evening came on the Beam rotation as she registered a 9.775 to lead all Redhawks in the rotation.Â

Rankings
After the first weekend of the season, SEMO Gymnastics currently ranks 40
th in the country just behind Bowling Green (39) and Sacrament State (38). The Redhawks will face off with Sacrament State later this year at Air Force (Feb. 9). SEMO's lowest ranking comes on the floor routine where they currently rank 29
th. They rank 41, 33, and 39 on the Vault, Bars, and Beam, respectively, after the first week of competition.

Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri Gymnastics opened the season at the Mizzou Invitational with a third-place finish, posting a 192.775 on Saturday night at the Hearnes Center.Â

Senior
Lydia Webb finished second overall in the all-around category, posting a 38.825 trailing only Missouri's Sienna Schreiber who finished with a 39.400.Â

The Redhawks tied with Northern Illinois (192.775) as Lindenwood (194.000) took second with Missouri (197.150) winning the meet.Â

SEMO posted a rotation high 48.700 on the floor routine followed by a 48.275 on vault, a 48.200 on bars, and a 47.600 on the Beam.Â

Scouting the Opponent
Centenary
The Centenary Ladies come to Houck Field House for their first meet of the 2024 season. Last season they competed in eight meets, placing second seven times and fourth once.

Centenary will be returning 11 athletes from last season's roster. This year's rosters consist of three freshmen, five sophomores, two juniors, and five seniors.Â
Â
Senior Kendall Huff, Junior Emma Lavelle, Sophomore Amy Foret, and Sophomore Sophie Schmitz will be returning this season. These Ladies were the only returners who qualified for the USAG's last season.Â
Â
Foret and Schmitz were named to the Second Team All-American team last year at the USAG's.Â
Â
The Ladies placed fifth last season at the MIC Conference meet finishing with 189.350 total points. Their highest team score from last year was 191.575.

Meg Crowley enters her second season with the Centenary Ladies. Under Crowley last season eighth gymnast qualified for the USAG's making it the most since 2017.Â

Looking Ahead
The Gymhawks will be back in action next Friday, Jan. 19, when they take part in the Tennessee Collegiate Classic in Lebanon, Tenn. Competition is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
