Redhawks Fall in Season Finale 4-2

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (26-29, 14-10 OVC) dropped the season finale on Saturday afternoon to Eastern Illinois (33-18, 13-11 OVC) by a final score of 4-2 at Capaha Field.

Prior to the game, eight Redhawks were honored for their final home game at Capaha Field in a senior day ceremony.

LHP Haden Dow (4-3) took the loss in Saturday's contest. Dow pitched six complete innings allowing just one earned run on seven hits, striking out three.

The Redhawks got on the board in the first inning after a single and stolen base by Peyton Leeper got the scoring threat going.

Frist baseman Lincoln Andrews roped a ball through the right side that scored Leeper for an RBI single and the Redhawks led 1-0 after one inning.

The Panthers would respond in the second inning with an RBI single to right field by Ben Gallaher to even the score at one.

EIU would take their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. A leadoff double by Chris Worcester and an error in right field allowed Robby Taul to reach base with one out in the inning.

A two-out, three-run home run by designated hitter Ryan Ignoffo proved to be the difference as he hit the ball over the left-center field fence to give EIU a 4-1 lead after the visitor's fifth.

SEMO's offense was held in check until the seventh inning as Danny Sperling singled to right field to score Josh Cameron, cutting the deficit to just two.

The home run was the difference as the Redhawks could not put two runs together to fall Saturday afternoon.

RHP Esteban Hernandez had a great day out of the bullpen in relief of Dow. Hernandez pitched three perfect innings, including four strikeouts to give the Redhawks a chance in the final innings.

With the loss, SEMO will be the #4-seed in the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference tournament and will await the winner of #5-seed Eastern Illinois and the #8-seed (TBA). The Redhawks will play at 4 p.m., CT. on Wednesday, May 24, in Marion, Ill.
