Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri (26-26, 14-7 OVC) fell in the series finale on Sunday to UT Martin (21-31, 14-10 OVC) by a final score of 5-4 at Skyhawk Baseball Field.
The Redhawks offense was held in check Sunday afternoon, registering just five hits against UTM pitching.
Trailing by a run in the ninth inning,
Gunnar Doyle hit a solo home run to right field to tie the game at four. For Doyle, the solo blast was his first home run of the season.
In the bottom of the ninth, UTM's Andrew Fernandez doubled home the game winning RBI off
Kyle Miller (1-2) with two outs to win the series finale.
UTM got on the board first in the third inning with Fernandez's first double of the game that scored two.
The Redhawks responded in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Lincoln Andrews to plate
Peyton Leeper.
Danny Sperling then grounded out to second base which scored
Josh Cameron and the Redhawks tied the ball game.
Another RBI double to left center by the Skyhawks gave UTM a 3-2 advantage after the fourth inning.
Ben Palmer hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to tie the game once again at three until the seventh inning.
UTM regained the lead with a solo home run to left field off RHP
Gavin Johnston in the home seventh.
Gunnar Doyle's home run in the ninth came with one out to tie it at four before the Skyhawks walked it off in the home ninth.
The Redhawks will be back in action on Thursday, May 18, for the final Ohio Valley Conference regular season series against Eastern Illinois. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., CT. at Capaha Field.
