MOREHEAD, Ky. – Southeast Missouri (22-19, 11-4 OVC) dropped the third and final matchup with Morehead State (24-14, 9-3 OVC) on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 7-6 at Allen Field.
Peyton Leeper led the Redhawks offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day, including his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning, as SEMO tallied eight hits in the ball game.
With a runner on and two outs in the top of the ninth inning, trailing by three,
Jevon Mason hit a two-run home run to get the Redhawks to within a run, but it was not enough as the Eagles moved into first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Mason finished 2-for-5 at the plate, including two runs scored.
An RBI base hit for first baseman
Lincoln Andrews put the Redhawks on the board first in the top of the first inning. Mason led off the game with a single and would come into score off Andrews' hit.
A sacrifice fly by MSU's Nick Gooden tied the game at one in the home half.
The Eagles would take their first lead of the game in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field by Logan Castleman, off Redhawks starting pitcher
Haden Dow.
Dow finished the day pitching 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. The Canada-native struck out eight batters over 22 faced.
A Roman Kuntz solo home run to right-center field gave MSU a 4-1 lead after the sixth inning.
The Redhawks would not go quietly.
Peyton Leeper led off the seventh inning with a solo blast to right field for his sixth of the season to trim the MSU lead to just two.
Brett Graber reached base via an error to bring up
Danny Sperling who hit his first home run of the season, two batters after Leeper to tie it at four.
The Eagles would plate two in the home seventh, and another in the eighth with a two-run and solo home run, respectively, to take a 7-4 lead into the ninth.
Mason's home run got the Redhawks to within a run, but MSU would hold on to win the game, and the series.

Eddie White (0-3) was credited with the loss for SEMO. White pitched 1.1 innings, allowing just two runs on two hits.
SEMO will be back in action on Tuesday, April 25, when rival Southern Illinois visits Cape Girardeau for a special "Fill the Hill" Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., CT. at Capaha Field.
