Redhawks Set to Host Butler University at Capaha in a Three-Game Series this Weekend
Southeast Missouri (4-10) will host Big East-member Butler University(2-11) for a three-game weekend series at Capaha Field, March 10-12. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m., CT. on Friday, 2 p.m., CT. on Saturday, and 1 p.m., CT. on Sunday.

Series History

The weekend series with Butler will mark just the third time that these two have faced-off on the diamond. The last time SEMO played Butler was in 1983 resulting in an 8-5 Bulldogs win. Butler maintains a 2-0 series lead over SEMO. 
 
Redhawks Drop the Midweek
The Redhawks dropped both games of the midweek series with Indiana State  beginning with Tuesday's 8-3 loss. SEMO was outhit 11-6 as the Sycamores scored runs in the first, third, eighth, and ninth innings to steal game one. In game two, the Redhawks fought back to take a 4-3 lead going into the eighth inning. Lincoln Andrews chopped a groundball up the middle and into center field to bring home the tying, and go-ahead runs. Redhawks leading 4-3, a three-run homerun by Indiana State's short stop Randal Diaz gave the Sycamores the lead as they held on for the final win of the series by a final score of 7-4. 
 
SEMO dropped to 31-43 all-time in midweek games under Head Coach Andy Sawyers.
 

Redhawks Hit The Long Ball
Carlos Aranda leads the Redhawks with four homeruns on the season so far. The slugger from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic hit his fourth home run of the season on Sunday against Milwaukee (3/5). Josh Cameron and Lincoln Andrews are tied for second with three bombs a piece, Ty Stauss is third with two. 
 
 Redhawks Capture Home Opening Series Win Over Milwaukee 
Southeast Missouri took games two and three from the Milwaukee Panthers over the weekend to win the opening weekend series at Capaha Park by a two-game to one tally as the Redhawks improved to 4-8 on the season. 
 
The Redhawks struggled in Game One of Saturday's double header (Friday game moved due to weather) as designated hitter 
Carlos Aranda hit his third home run of the season to give SEMO it's only run of the contest. Southeast Missouri dropped game one by a final score of 3-1. 
 
The Redhawks offense came alive in the final two games of the series, totaling 26 hits over the two games (12, 14) to win Saturday's game two, 6-5, and Sunday's rubber match, 13-7. 
  
Offensive Leader
Outfielder Josh Cameron continues to pace the Redhawks offense with a .370 batting average through the season's first 14 games. Cameron is leading the team in slugging percentage (.648), hits (20), runs (13), and is tied for the team-high in RBI (12). 
   
Southeast Southpaw
LHP Noah Niznik has been the Redhawks Friday night starter all-season long and leads the Redhawks in earned run average (ERA) with a 3.68 average. This season he has only allowed one walk over 14.2 innings pitched and has fanned 12 opposing batters (2nd). Niznik will make his fourth start of the season on Friday. 

Breaking down the Bulldogs
Butler faces off against the Redhawks with a  2-11 record. The Bulldogs started the season 2-1 with their last win coming on February 18th when they beat Fairleigh Dickinson 16-7. Butler's only other win was in the same series against Fairleigh Dickinson on the 19th. They most recently suffered a loss to Jackson State on Wednesday 7-11.
 
The Bulldogs are led offensively by shortstop Joey Urban who currently leads Butler in batting average (.327), first in slugging percentage (.692), first in runs scored (10), and first in hits (17). Urban also leads the team in RBIs with 12.
 
Infielder Carter Dorighi has also proved to be an asset for the bulldogs. He is second on the team in RBI's (9) and third for runs scored (7). The Sophomore from Colorado also has an average of .265 and an OPS of .737.
 

Looking Ahead
The Redhawks head to Springfield next Tuesday, March 14th then back to Cape on Wednesday for a two game series with Missouri State. First Pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m., CT. on Tuesday at Hammons Field. Game time is 3:00 p.m., CT at Capaha Field Wednesday, March 15th.
