Redhawks Travel to Southeastern Conference Member Missouri Saturday
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-4) will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 2, when they head to Columbia, Mo. to take on SEC-member Missouri (5-3) to continue non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., CT. at Mizzou Arena.Â

Saturday's matchup between the Redhawks and Tigers will mark the 20
th time the two Missouri schools will meet on the basketball court in women's basketball. MU holds an 18-1 series advantage over SEMO dating back to last season.Â

The Tigers narrowly escaped with a 62-50 victory over SEMO in Columbia a season ago on Nov. 13, 2022.Â

Freshman guard
Daejah Richmond was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.Â

The freshman from Cordova, Tenn. registered a career-high 16 points last Wednesday night against Missouri State.Â

Richmond finished the night on six-of-12 shooting for her fourth game of the season with 50-percent or better shooting. She also was a near perfect four-of-five from the charity stripe in the contest.Â

To go along with her career high in points, Daejah finished with career best four steals. She chipped in two assists and five rebounds as well.

The Redhawks are scoring the basketball at a very high clip through the first six games of the season and are coming off their season-high 86 points from Tuesday's contest with Harris-Stowe. SEMO currently averages 74.3 points-per-game and are second in the Ohio Valley Conference in that statistic.Â

Jaliyah Green and
Indiya Bowen led the way for the Redhawks offensively scoring 17 and 14 points, respectively, to help SEMO remain undefeated at home in 2023-24.Â

The duo combined for 10-of-21 from the floor and 5-for-6 from behind the three-point line. Bowen finished a perfect four-for-four from behind the arc, a career-best three-point percentage (1.000).Â

SEMO dominated the entire way as the Redhawks finished 33-for-71 from the field (47-percent) and a season-high 47-percent from three-point land in the contest.Â

The Redhawks were able to force 34 Harris-Stowe turnovers and converted those into 26 fastbreak points as six Redhawks finished with three or more steals, led by Bowen and Green with four each.Â

Daejah Richmond finished the game with six points on 3-of-5 shooting. She snagged five total rebounds, three on the offensive end of the floor, and dished out five assists in 18 minutes of action.Â

Senior forward
Julia Sion had a nice impact off the bench for the Redhawks as she finished with 10 points, a season and SEMO career-high, as she was 5-for-11 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.Â

The Redhawks utlitzed their depth once again in Tuesday's contest, scoring 40 points off the bench led by
Indiya Bowen (14) and
Kiyley Flowers (12).Â

Flowers, who registered a new season-high, finished five-for-seven from the floor and two-for-two from the free throw line in 22 minutes of game time.Â

SEMO trailed for just 3:27 of the contest, coming in the first quarter as the Hornets got out to a 4-2 lead at the 7:08 mark in the first 10-minutes.Â

The Hornets never led by more than three points when they led 9-6 after a three-pointer by Kya Gordon.Â

Megan Barton collected an offensive rebound on the ensuing possession and finished the second-chance opportunity to get SEMO to within one point. The Redhawks crashed the offensive glass, grabbing 12 offensive boards and converted them into 10 second-chance points.Â

After the layup from Barton, the Redhawks closed the quarter on an 8-0 run and never looked back as they took a 16-10 lead into the first break.Â

From that point on it was all Redhawks as the defense turned it up a notch. SEMO converted 34 Harris-Stowe turnovers into 43 points, scored 46 points in the paint, and held the Hornets to just seven points in the fourth quarter.Â

Scouting the Opponent
Missouri
The Tigers are coming off of a 81-87 loss against Virginia where they shot 45% from the field, 38% from three, and 69.2% from the free throw line. Missouri has now dropped its last two games.

Graduate Student Hayley Frank led the team in points with 21 going 6-14 from the field while also adding seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Frank currently leads the Tigers in points per game (18.3), rebounds per game (6.6), and blocks (8).

Missouri's guard Mama Dembele added six points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals against Virginia. Dembele is second in the SEC in assists per game with seven and third in the SEC in steals per game with 3.4.

Ashton Judd and Grace Slaughter both recorded double-digit points. Judd had 14 points on a 5-12 shooting clip and Slaughter had 17 points while shooting 6-9 from the field.

The Tigers have four athletes averaging double-digit points. Frank with 18.3, Judd with 16.3, Slaughter with 13.6, and Dembele with 10.3.

As a team Missouri is averaging 80.6 points per game and holding their opponents to 70.5. The Tigers are shooting 47.3% from the field, 39.7% from behind the arc, and 78.5% from the strip.Â
