Redhawks Head to Windy City for Matchup with Illinois-Chicago Friday
Southeast Missouri women's basketball (1-1) willl be back in actoin on Friday, Nov. 17, when they head to Chicago, Ill. to take on Missouri Valley-member Illinois-Chicago (2-1). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., CT. in the Windy City.
 
Series History
The Redhawks and Flames will meet for the sixth time overall on Friday night, and for the second- straight season. SEMO maintains a 3-2 series lead over UIC.
 
SEMO won the last matchup a season ago in a thrilling 56-55 victory in the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau on Dec. 20, 2022.
 
Starting Lineup
Saturday's starting lineup featured two Redhawks who made their starting debut in a SEMO uniform as forward Amiyah Buchanan and guard Megan Barton were in the starting lineup against Stephens College (11/11).
 
Buchanan recorded a career-high 17 points in Saturday's contest, shooting 6-for-7 from the field. Barton led the team with six total rebounds, five of them coming on the defensive end of the field.

The Redhawks have started 2023-24 on fire scoring the basketball. Through the first two games, SEMO is averaging 76.0 points-per-game and currently have a +3.5-scoring margin against two opponents.
 
By contrast, the Redhawks averaged 61.6 points-per-game over the entire 2022-23 season. Through two games last year, SEMO averaged just 58.5 PPG. 
 
The Redhawks have three scorers who average double-digits points-per-game in Alecia Doyle (18.0), Jaliyah Green (16.0), ad Indiya Bowen (10.0).
 
Leading Scorer
Sophomore guard Alecia Doyle has begun the 2023-24 campaign as the leading scorer for the Redhawks. Through two games, Doyle is averaging 18 points-per-game after dropping in 19 against Southern Illinois (11/7) and 17 against Stephens College (11/11). On the season, Doyle is a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the three-point line (1.000) and is an impressive 14-for-18 from the field (.778).

Freshman guard 
Indiya Bowen recorded a career-high 19 points as Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (1-1) defeated Stephens College (4-1) by a final score of 82-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Show-Me Center. 
 
Bowen, from Nesbit, Miss., shot 50-percent from the field (6-12) including 2-for-4 from three-point range, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe in her second-straight start of the season. 
 
Four different Redhawks finished the game in double-figures in points as 
Alecia Doyle and Jaliyah Green scored 17 and 15 points, respectively.
 
Forward 
Amiyah Buchanan, making her first career-start for SEMO, dropped in 17 points as she finished a near-perfect 6-for-7 from the floor. She collected four rebounds in 25:30 of game time. 
 
SEMO got off to a fast start as they led 39-29 at the halftime break. SEMO shot 57-percent as a team in the first quarter and followed it up with a 54-percent second half. The Redhawks were led by 
Alecia Doyle at the break with 11 points. 
 
In the first half, SEMO got out and ran on the fastbreak collecting nine points in transition to just two points from Stephens College. 
 
With two minutes remaining in the half, SEMO grew its largest lead of the game to 12. 

The Redhawks dominated the second half as they cruised to their first win of the season by 22 points. 
 
As a team, the Redhawks shot 29-of-51 from the field, a staggering 56.9-percent as all 10 Redhawks who suited up played in the game. 
 

Jaliyah Green and Indiya Bowen led the Redhawks as both guards shot 50-percent from three-point land, SEMO finished 5-of-12 from three-point range. 
 
SEMO dominated in the paint, scoring 36 of their 82 points from inside. Stephens scored just 28 points in the paint. 
 
In back-to-back games, the bench was well utilized as SEMO recorded 27 points off the bench as SEMO led for 35:27 of the game. 

Scouting The Opponent
Illinois-Chicago
The Flames enter the game 2-1 overall with a 73-70 win over Milwaukee on Sunday. UIC shot 40% from the floor on 65 shots and went 4-15 from deep (26.7%).
 
Senior Guard Jaida McCloud recorded the most points against the Panthers, with 16 while going 6-8 from the floor. 
 
Keimari Rimmer provided help on both sides of the ball scoring 12 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Rimmer leads the team in points and rebounds this season with 43 and 24. 
 
Danyel Middleton was second on the team in points on Sunday, notching 13 points going 5-11 in field goals and 1-3 from behind the arc. The senior guard posted six steals bringing her total nine on the campaign.
 
Dais'Ja Trotter averages 14.3 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and has notched eight assist on the year.
 
UIC is composed of ten seniors, five juniors, and two juniors. Eight players average double-digit minutes per game, five are seniors and three are juniors.
 
Looking Forward
SEMO will conclude their two-game road trip with a
matchup with Big 10-member Northwestern on Sunday, Nov. 19. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., CT. from Evanston, Ill.
