Elfrink, Koerner, Nelson Land on All-OVC Team

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri soccer picked up three postseason All-Ohio Valley Conference honors on Wednesday night, the league announced at the Championship banquet hosted by Tennessee Tech ahead of Thursday's semifinals.
Goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink, forward Cayla Koerner, and midfielder Justi Nelson were all selected for postseason honors. For Elfrink and Koerner, the sophomore duo landed on the All-OVC Second Team as freshman Justi Nelson was selected to the All-Newcomer team for 2023.
Sophia Elfrink, the Columbia, Mo.-native, was selected to the All-OVC Second Team as SEMO's goalkeeper after leading the conference in goals against average, saves, and shutouts per game.
Elfrink registered nine shutouts on the season, three more than her next closes competition. Over the duration of 2023, Sophia allowed just 13 goals over 18 games played for a .751 goals-against-average in 1,558-minutes of gametime.
She finished the season with 71 saves for a .845 saves percentage.
Forward Cayla Koerner landed on the OVC All-Second Team after leading SEMO in nearly every offensive category. Koerner recorded the most shots on the team with 30 for a .133 shot-percentage, finishing the season with four goals.
The Mahomet, Ill.-native led SEMO in goals (4), assists (4), points (12), shots (30), shots-on-goal (16), and was tied for first in game-winning goals (2).
Koerner recorded the game-tying assist in the OVC Quarterfinal match against #3 SIUE in a pivotal moment of the match to send it to overtime where the Redhawks would eventually win in penalty kicks.
In the league, Koerner is tied for third in the assist category and is fifth in the league with points.
Midfielder Justi Nelson landed on the OVC All-Newcomer Team in her first season in a Redhawks jersey.
In 17 games, Nelson started in 16 and appeared in all 17 as a staple in the center of the SEMO pack.
She has recorded an assists on the season and 14 shots, including six on-target for a.429 season shot-on-goal percentage.
Over the duration of the regular season, she registered one 90-minute match against Morehead State (0ct. 8). In the OVC Tournament, Justi has played in 98 and 97 minutes in the two games, respectively.
SEMO Soccer will play in the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 2, against #2-seeded Morehead State. First kick is slated for 7 p.m., CT. in Cookeville, Tenn.
