CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri signed two NCAA Division I transfers in forward Kobe Clark and guard Gavyn Elkamil Monday.
Clark joins the Redhawks from Georgetown and Elkamil comes to SEMO from Tulsa.
A native of St. Louis and former teammate of point guard
Phillip Russell at Vashon High School, Clark played in 11 games as a reserve for the Hoyas this season. As a freshman in 2020-21, he appeared in 10 games and made one start. Clark pulled down 10 rebounds in his college debut against UMBC.
"Moving into 2022-23 season, we needed a physical presence offensively and defensively," said SEMO Head Coach
Brad Korn. "Kobe fits that mold and is going to be a very good asset to our program. He is a great defender and rebounder, and those things go along with his basketball IQ and offensive skill set."
Prior to Georgetown, Clark averaged 10.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 blocks as a senior at Vashon High School. He earned Second-Team All-Metro honors and was named to the All-State Team.
"SEMO and the Ohio Valley Conference are a perfect match and fit for Kobe," continued Korn. "He is a winner from his high school days playing for Coach Tony Irons at Vashon. We look forward to him bringing that warrior mentality every day in our program and we are excited to have him."
Elkamil, who hails from Pittsburg, Kansas, spent his freshman campaign at Tulsa this year. He saw action in four games and had five rebounds.
"Gavyn is a young man that I actually went and saw play a high school game during my time as an assistant coach at K-State," said Korn. "He really intrigued me with his size, speed, athleticism and shooting. We are looking forward to him bringing those same attributes to our program along with a tireless work ethic and leadership qualities that every program is looking for."
Before Tulsa, Elkamil played one year at Link Prep Academy. He also attended Pittsburg High School, where he was a two-time First-Team 4-States Basketball Coaches Association All-Area pick. Elkamil averaged a double-double 24.6 points and 12.5 rebounds to go along with two steals and 3.5 assists his senior season with the Purple Dragons.
"Gavyn comes from a great family with extremely high character. He is also very committed to the classroom and takes a lot of pride in his education. Gavyn has continued to develop and play his best basketball due to his extended basketball family/coaches including Coach Kiley Roelfs (Pittsburg H.S.) and Adam Donyes (Link Prep Academy)," concluded Korn.
Clark and Elkamil join combo guard Evan Eursher (Hendersonville, Tenn./The Webb School) in the Redhawks 2022-23 signing class.
