Biography

2022-23: First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference and OVC All-Tournament Team selection…Preseason All-OVC pick…Went over 1,000 points in his career…Southeast Missouri’s top scorer with 18.1 points per game in 34 starts…Led the Redhawks in minutes (32.5 mpg), field goals made (180), 3-point field goals made (82), free throw percentage (.805), free throws made (173), assists (174), steals (54) and total points (615)…Became only the third OVC player in the last 25 years to lead the conference in points and assists in the same season…The other two were Murray State’s Ja Morant (2018-19) and Cameron Payne (2014-15)…Averaged 19.9 points per game in 16 conference starts…Ranked second in the OVC in scoring, second in assists, third in steals, fourth in 3-point field goals made, third in assist/turnover ratio (1.8) and third in minutes…In OVC games, he was second in scoring, second in assists, tied for 10th in steals, fifth in 3-point field goals made and third in assist/turnover ratio…Scored double figures in 33 of the 34 games he played…Poured in 20 or more points on 11 occasions…Tied SEMO’s NCAA Division I single-game scoring record twice with 37 points at Morehead State (1/14) and vs. Little Rock (2/2)…Dropped in 30 points and had nine assists vs. Tennessee State (1/26)…Missed two starts vs. UT Martin (1/18, due to ankle injury) and at Lindenwood (2/23, suspension determined by OVC)…Turned in a pair of point-assist double-doubles when he had 37 points and 10 assists vs. Little Rock (2/2) and 15 points and 10 assists in the Redhawks NCAA First Four game vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3/14)…Scored 28 points and made a season-high six 3-pointers at UT Martin (1/5)…Made 10 or more free throws four times…Dished out five or more assists in 17 games…Officially went over 1,000 career points when he scored 21 and had the final seven points of the game in SEMO’s OVC Tournament title victory over Tennessee Tech (3/4)…Finished as SEMO’s leading scorer 14 times.

2021-22: Earned Second-Team All-OVC and All-Newcomer honors in his first year at Southeast Missouri…Ranked second on the team in scoring with 13.4 points per game in 30 starts…Led the team with 95 assists and 37 steals…Rated second in minutes (30.4), 3-pointers made (48) and free throws made (99)…Averaged 2.5 rebounds and shot 41.9 percent (127-of-303) from the field…Missed two starts due to COVID protocols…Scored double figures in 21 games…Finished as SEMO’s top scorer on 10 occasions…Ranked ninth in the OVC in scoring, 10th in assists (3.2 apg), 11th in free throw percentage (.733), 12th in steals (1.2 spg), 13th in 3-point field goals made (1.6 per game), 10th in assist/turnover ratio (1.5) and 15th in minutes played (30.4 mpg)…Scored 20 or more points five times…Broke SEMO’s single-game scoring record by a freshman during the NCAA Division I era when he poured in 35 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and collected five steals at SIU Edwardsville (2/7)…Became only the second Division I freshman in the last 25 years to get 35+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a game…Scored 24 points on 10-of-16 field goals vs. Evansville (12/8)…Dropped in 21 points vs. Montana State (11/28) and 25 (20 in the second half) at Pepperdine (12/18)…Was named OVC Freshman of the Week on five occasions (11/29, 12/20, 1/3, 1/24, 2/14).

Saint Louis: Enrolled at Saint Louis University as a freshman in 2020-21...Played in eight games off the bench and averaged 2.1 points per contest as a walk-on with the Billikens.

Prep: Helped lead Vashon High School to a state title his junior season...Vashon was also in the state semifinals his senior year before it was canceled due to COVID-19...Averaged 15.7 points per game en route to claiming All-State honors as a senior, shooting 45 percent from the field and 56.8 percent from 3-point range.

Personal: Born October 11, 2001...Majoring in General Studies...Son of Phillip Russell and Teirra Knox...Initially signed with SEMO out of high school, but decommitted and went to Saint Louis as a walk-on...Has one brother (Trevon) and two sisters (Ayanna, Terena).
