Redhawks Trek to Texas for 2022 MIC Championship FridayÂ
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics travels to Denton, Texas, for the 2022 Midwest Independent Conference Championship Friday at the Kitty Magee Arena. First rotation will begin at 5 p.m., CT.

The Redhawks will travel to Texas on Wednesday before practice day on Thursday.Â

SEMO registered a team-score of 194.825 to take third at the 2021 MIC Championship March 19, 2021 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State in Normal, Illinois.Â

Texas Woman's
Texas Woman's, the 2022 MIC Championship host, is second in the league with a NQS of 194.995. The Pioneers are averaging a 193.861 and have achieved a season best 195.725.

Domi Bonzagni posted a season high on bars (9.625) while tying her season high on beam (9.725), Mara Johnson tied her season high on bars (9.750), and Daisy Woodring made a strong season debut on floor (9.725) as TWU concluded its regular season with a 194.825-191.575 victory over Centenary on March 12 inside the Gold Dome in Shreveport, Louisiana.Â

Woodring won the vault with a 9.825. Madeline Gose and Steelie King tied for the beam event title with scores of 9.850. Gose also won floor with a 9.850.Â

Lindenwood ranks third in the conference for NQS with 194.555. The Lions are averaging a 193.965 and have notched a season high of 195.475.

The Lions most recently took fourth at Missouri's quad meet on March 12 with a team score of 194.825 in Columbia, Missouri. Hanna Moon was third in the all-around competition with 39.125 and Gayla Griswold was fourth (38.450). Moon had a 9.700 on vault, a 9.800 on bars, a 9.875 on beam and a 9.750 on floor. Griswold's top event was a 9.925 on vault to go along with a 9.750 on beam.Â

Illinois State leads the MIC in 2022 with a NQS of 195.230 and is averaging a 194.260 with a season best of 195.875.

The Redbirds sent out their four seniors out with a victory as Illinois State led from start to finish over SEMO in a 195.350-192.750 win March 12 on Senior Night at Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois. On bars in the second rotation, ISU set a season high score of 49.150 with five scores of 9.8 or better which ranks second in school history. The Redbirds also posted a season-high score of 49.325 on floor with five scores of 9.850 or better for third highest in ISU school history.

The Redbirds took the top two spots in the all-around, with Angelica Labat winning once again with a high score of 49.450. Alana Laster came in second in the all-around, setting a new career-high with a 39.200.

Labat tied her season high with a 9.925 on vault to pick up the event win. Sofia Iribarren tied her career high with a 9.900 on bars to take the event win in her final home meet of her career. Labat picked up her second event win of the night on beam, scoring a 9.850.

Centenary has compiled a NQS of 187.690 for fifth in the league this season. The Ladies are averaging a team score of 187.894 including a season high of 191.575.

Centenary earned its highest team score of the season as the Ladies posted a 191.575 and finished second to TWU in their annual Senior Night meet March 12 at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Taylor Ann Wilson won the bars title with a 9.850. Kendall Sanders took first in the all-around competition with 38.875 including a 9.775 on floor (third) and a pair of 9.725s on vault and bars.Â

Ashley Lawson was named the 2021 MIC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the meet. For Lawson, it was her second-straight season earning the honor.

Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso paced the Redhawks with five All-MIC team honors on beam (first team), bars (second team), vault (second team), floor (first team) and in the all-around (first team).

She finished as the runner-up in the all-around competition with 39.150.Â
Molly Maxwell totaled 37.700 for fifth overall in the all-around for second-team All-MIC honors.

Anna Kaziska, the reigning MIC Gymnast of the Week, won the floor title with a career-best matching 9.950 in the third rotation. She also tied for second on beam with a 9.775.Â

Lindsay Ockler paced the Redhawks on vault and bars March 12 in SEMO's final regular-season dual at Illinois State. Ockler finished as the runner-up on both vault and bars to lead SEMO in the opening two rotations.Â

She led SEMO on bars with a career best 9.875 to finish second overall at the dual. Ockler, a freshman from Huson, Montana, improved on her personal best after tallying her second career 9.850 last week at Texas Woman's quad meet (March 6).Â

Ockler then paced the Redhawks with a 9.825 on vault to finish second overall at the dual. The mark was her second in as many meets and third 9.825 achieved in 2022 on vault. She has now posted a 9.800 or higher on vault in five-straight competitions on vault. Ockler also chipped in a 9.675 on floor.Â

Ockler won the bars title Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. She notched a bars set of 9.850 to capture her first career individual event title. Ockler also led the Redhawks with a 9.800 on vault in the anchor position for third at the meet.

In nine meets this season, Ockler has registered eight scores of 9.775 or higher on bars.

Ockler leads the Redhawks in 2022 with 20 scores of 9.7 or higher and an individual event title. She has competed on vault, bars and floor in her first career collegiate season.Â

Kaziska, a Louisville, Kentucky, native, has earned Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week twice in 2022 and MIC Gymnast of the Week once. She was named a nominee for the 2022 AAI Award on Feb. 21.Â

On beam, Kaziska has registered a 9.775 or higher in each of the last eight competitions this season and nine times this campaign. She has tallied four 9.875s this season and added a season-best 9.900 to win the event title on Senior Night against Illinois State on Feb. 25.Â

Kaziska has most recently tallied consecutive 9.775s at Texas Woman's quad on March 6 and in the regular-season finale at Illinois State on March 12.Â

Kaziska Named 2022 AAI Award Nominees
SeniorÂ
Anna Kaziska was named a 2022 AAI Award Nominee, Feb. 21. Kaziska, a Louisville, Kentucky, native, is one of 35 nominees for the award.Â
Kaziska has competed in 42 career meets over all four events. The Louisville, Kentucky, native has captured 47 career event titles and 99 scores of 9.700 or higher. Kaziska won the 2021 USA Gymnastics National Beam Championship and has represented the Redhawks in two NCAA Regionals. Her career highs are 9.8 or higher on each event. Kaziska ranks second in the SEMO Gymnastics record books with a career-best beam score of 9.925. She also is fifth all-time on floor exercise with a pair of personal-high 9.950s.

Kaziska was named the MIC Gymnast of the Year in 2020 and the MIC Newcomer of the Year in 2019. She is a nine-time USA Gymnastics All-American and seven-time MIC All-Conference gymnast.

AAI has been presenting the AAI Award to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country for over the last 30+ years. Some people have stated it is the Heisman Trophy for Women's gymnastics.Â

2022 Season Opener Recap
SEMO opened its 2022 season with a team score of 191.500 Jan. 16 at Kent State's tri meet held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Host Kent State won the tri with a team score of 195.300. Northern Illinois was second with 194.150 and SEMO was third at the tri with a mark of 191.500.
The Redhawks best event at the tri was 48.050 on bars. SEMO also had a 47.850 on floor, a 47.825 on beam and 47.775 on vault.Â

Ashley Albrecht returned to the Redhawks vault and bars lineups at Kent State's tri meet Jan. 16 after suffering an injury during the 2021 season. She posted a 9.675 on bars and a 9.100 on vault in her first meet back from injury since Feb. 22, 2021, against Lindenwood.

Albrecht hit her second 9.675 bars set in the regular-season finale at Illinois State on March 12.Â

2021 Signees
SEMO head coachÂ
Ashley Lawson announced Nov. 10 the team had inked two student-athletes during the early signing period. Taylor Ingle and Sydney Crouch will join the team next fall for the 2023 season.

Ingle, a Coppell, Texas native, will graduate from Coppell High School in 2022. She was a state, regional and National qualifier in her junior year. Ingle most recently won the 2021 state championship with Texas Dream Gymnastics.

Crouch, who comes to Cape Girardeau by way of Coral Springs, Florida, will graduate from Coral Springs Charter School in 2022. She was a State, Regional and National Qualifier in 2021 during her junior year.

2021 USA Gymnastics National Champions
The Redhawks captured the 2021 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship April 10 at the Show Me Center with a team score of 195.025. Trailing Lindenwood 145.725-145.650 entering the final rotation, SEMO tied a program-best 49.375 on beam to secure the Championship.

Ashley Lawson (then Godwin) led SEMO on the event with a 9.975. SEMO also recorded a 48.900 on vault at the 2021 USAG Championship, which tied for the seventh-highest score in SEMO program history.

2021 in Review
SEMO registered a team score of 194.825 to take third at the 2021 Midwest Independent Conference Championships March 19 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State. Eight Redhawks earned All-MIC honors for their performances at the Championships and head coachÂ
Ashley Lawson was named the 2021 MIC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the meet. For Lawson, it was her second-straight season earning the honor.

SEMO averaged a team score of 193.498 in 2021 including six-straight marks of 194 or higher to conclude the season. The Redhawks season-high of 195.150 achieved against Illinois State and Lindenwood on Senior Day (March 12) ranks 10th all-time in SEMO program history. The Redhawks averaged a 48.000 plus on every event this season including a 48.555 on beam, 48.527 on floor, 48.236 on vault and 48.180 on bars. The SEMO season-best floor score of 49.225 posted on March 12 ranks ninth in the school's record books.

Redhawks Crushing it in the ClassroomÂ
Southeast Missouri ranked 13th among the nation's top Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) academic teams for the 2020-21 season. SEMO posted a 3.78 GPA with 18 of its student-athletes named Academic All-Americans. Over 94 percent of the 2021 Redhawks roster registered a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Looking Ahead
To wrap up the season, SEMO will travel to the Empire State to defend its 2021 crown at the 2022 USA Gymnastics National Championship April 7-10 in Ithaca, New York. The competition will be held on the campus of Cornell.
