Redhawks Head to St. Charles Friday for the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational Quad Meet 
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics makes the short trip to St. Charles, Missouri, for the 2022 GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational Friday at The Family Arena. SEMO will compete against Iowa State and Midwest Independent Conference foes, Illinois State and Lindenwood, in the quad meet. The Redhawks will open Friday on floor. 
 
SEMO will compete at the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational for the fourth-straight season Friday. 
 
GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational Recap
SEMO recorded a 191.725 for fourth out of six teams at the GymQuarters Invitational Feb. 12, 2021 at The Family Arena. Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso took second overall in the all-around with a total score of 38.775.
 
Anna Kaziska and Lindsey Bates combined for three individual event titles as the Redhawks took first at the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational tri meet Feb. 14, 2020, at The Family Arena with a team score of 193.525. Kaziska won the beam with her sixth career 9.875 (fourth in 2020). She also notched her third career 9.900 (first in 2020) on floor for the title. Bates captured her first title of the season and sixth of her career with a 9.700 on bars in the opening rotation.
 
Anna Kaziska won the beam and floor titles Feb. 15, 2019 at the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational at the Family Arena as SEMO totaled 188.500 courtesy of a season-best vault score of 48.200. Kaziska posted a beam score of 9.875 in the final rotation and opened the quad meet with a mark of 9.850 on floor to achieve both titles.

Looking at the Opponents
Lindenwood
The Lions took first at SEMO's dual meet Feb. 11 with a team score of 195.150.  
 
Gayla Griswold took first-place on vault with a personal best 9.900. Simone Evans took second place overall on the event with a 9.850, while Michelle Reed tied for third with her 9.800. Hadley Roberts led the way for Lindenwood on beam, scoring a 9.825 and taking third overall. Madison Rush was right behind her with a 9.800, which put her fourth in the event. 

Hannah Moon and Hannah Appleget paced the Lions on the uneven bars, winding up in a three-way tie with SEMO's Lydia Webb for second in the meet with a 9.775. Griswold was also the leader of the floor exercise, taking first for Lindenwood and third overall with a 9.900, which tied a personal best on the event. 
 
Head coach Catelyn Orel is in her first season at the helm of Lindenwood.
 
Illinois State 
The Redbirds edged Northern Illinois, 194.900-193.775, Feb. 11 at home in Normal, Illinois. ISU then dropped a 195.950-195.250 decision to NIU Feb. 13 in DeKalb, Illinois. 
 
The Redbirds swept the MIC Weekly awards. Angelica Labat earned Gymnast of the Week while Alana Laster captured Performance of the Week and Newcomer of the Week.
 
Labat picked up two more all-around wins last weekend against Northern Illinois and has now won the event in five of the team's seven meets this year. Labat won the all-around competition Feb. 11, tying her season best score of 39.275 set the week prior against Bowling Green. She tied for first on bars (9.875) and was third on both vault (9.825) and beam (9.775) to come away with the victory. She followed that up with another all-around win in the return trip to DeKalb on Feb. 13, this time with a score of 39.200. Labat tied for first place on floor with a season-high score of 9.875 and tied for second on vault (9.850). 
 
Laster's weekend was highlighted by a first-place finish on vault Feb. 13 with a career-high score of 9.925, which is the highest individual event score of the season for a Redbird gymnast. She also set a new career high in the all-around at NIU with a score of 38.700 to finish fourth. Laster tied for first place on floor (9.875) to wrap up a great performance. On Feb. 11, she posted three individual event top-10 finishes including a tie for fourth place on beam (9.700). 
 
Iowa State
Iowa State most recently fell to No. 12 Denver, 196.850-195.775, Feb. 13 in Denver, Colorado. 
 
Iowa scored a season high team score of 49.225 on vault. Makayla Maxwell earned her second 9.900 of the season on vault, her fourth straight score of 9.800 or above. Loganne Basuel's season high 9.875 on bars is the highest score the team has seen on the event thus far.
 
Home Opener Recap
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics captured five individual event titles as the Redhawks totaled 194.100 Feb. 11 in their home opener at Houck Field House. Lindenwood took the dual with a total score of 195.150.
 
Lindsay Ockler won the bars while Anna Kaziska secured the beam title. Kaziska also tied for first overall on floor with her former club teammate, Madison GreeneMolly Maxwell earned the all-around crown with 38.200 and Lydia Webb finished as the runner-up with 37.900. For Ockler and Greene, it marked the first career titles for the freshmen. 
 
SEMO commenced its home opener with a season-best 48.375 on vault and notched a 48.675 on bars in the second rotation which matched a season best.
 
Our Favorite Color Besides Red is Madison Greene
Freshman Madison Greene captured her first career event title with a personal-best floor score of 9.925 in the final rotation Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Greene tied for first on floor with teammate Anna Kaziska. The floor score ranks tied for seventh all-time in SEMO history. 

Greene has registered three scores of 9.800 or higher on floor in 2022.
 
She previously led SEMO with a career-best 9.850 for fourth at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic Jan. 21. The mark was her first score of 9.700 or higher as a Redhawk.
 
She hit a floor mark of 9.825 for third at Lindenwood's dual on Jan. 29. The mark was Greene's second-straight 9.800 plus floor score.
 
Greene, a freshman from Crestwood, Kentucky, trained at Champion Gymnastics with current SEMO teammate Anna Kaziska.  
 
Yeah Linds!!
Freshman Lindsay Ockler won the bars title Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. The Huson, Montana, native notched a career-best bars set of 9.850 to capture her first career individual event title. Ockler also led the Redhawks with a 9.800 on vault in the anchor position for third at the meet. She closed out the dual against Lindenwood with a 9.450 on floor. 
 
Ockler previously registered a trio of 9.700 plus scores Feb. 6 at #13 Arkansas. Ockler opened the dual with a 9.775 on bars. She then posted a 9.750 on vault to pace the Redhawks on the event. Ockler finished the dual with a 9.725 floor routine.
 
Ockler finished as the runner-up on vault and bars in a dual with Lindenwood on Jan. 29. She paced the Redhawks with a 9.800 on bars, good for second overall at the meet. For Ockler, it was her third-straight bars mark of 9.800 or higher in as many meets and second career 9.800. Ockler then led the Redhawks once again, this time on vault with a 9.725 for second overall at the dual. She also compiled a 9.700 on floor.
 
In four career collegiate meets, Ockler has notched a 9.700 or higher in 13 of her 15 events.
 
She notched a pair of career bests at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21. Ockler paced SEMO with a career-high 9.825 on vault for second overall at the Classic. She also finished as the runner-up on bars, tallying a 9.825 behind teammate Jolie Miller (9.875). Ockler was then second on the Redhawks with a personal-best 9.775 on floor to conclude the evening.
  
The freshman from Huson, Montana, registered her first two career scores of 9.700 or higher in her Redhawks debut at Kent State's quad meet on Jan. 16. She paced the Redhawks on vault and bars. Ockler posted a 9.750 on vault in the second rotation for sixth overall at the tri. She then added a 9.800 on bars for fifth overall at the meet. Ockler opened the meet with a 9.450 on vault.

Maxwell with Another All-Around Title
Molly Maxwell won her second career all-around title with 38.200 Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Maxwell's best event of the dual was a 9.700 on floor. 
 
She took first in the all-around competition at Lindenwood's dual Jan. 29 in St. Charles, Missouri, for her first career title with a total of 37.775. Her best event of the dual was a 9.700 on floor.
 
Maxwell, a junior from Milton, Wisconsin, has competed in the all-around competition in all five meets in 2022. She was third in the all-around competition with a season-high total of 38.450 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21 with a 9.800 on beam and a 9.725 on floor.
 
Maxwell also totaled an all-around score of 38.125 at Arkansas on Feb. 6. 
 
Anna Banana Being Anna Banana
Anna Kaziska won the beam and floor titles Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Kaziska captured the beam title with a season-high 9.875. The mark was her second-straight on beam and third in 2022.

Kaziska also tied for first on floor with teammate Madison Greene. Kaziska and Greene both registered scores of 9.925 in the final rotation. The floor score ranks tied for seventh all-time in SEMO history. For Kaziska, the score matched a career best. Kaziska also tallied a 9.675 on vault in the opening rotation. 
 
Kaziska has earned Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week twice in 2022 including most recently on Feb. 2.
 
She won the beam and floor titles in a dual with Lindenwood Jan. 29 at the Robert F. Hyland Arena. The Louisville, Kentucky, native, won the floor title with a 9.900. Kaziska registered her seventh career 9.900 floor routine in the dual at Lindenwood. She also captured the beam title with a 9.775.
 
The Reader
Nyah Reader registered a pair of career bests on vault (9.675) and beam Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood. Reader, a freshman from Rexford, New York, finished as the runner-up on beam with a career-best 9.850. It marked her second-straight 9.700 plus score on the event in 2022. 
 
Reader previously registered a beam score of 9.750 Feb. 6 at #13 Arkansas. The mark was her first career score of 9.700 plus at SEMO.
 
WEBBY!!
Lydia Webb took third in the all-around competition at Arkansas on Feb. 6 with a career-best total of 38.975. The sophomore from Wylie, Texas, notched a trio of personal bests on bars, beam and floor with a 9.825 on all three events. She also had a personal-high 9.500 on vault in her second career collegiate meet competing as an all-arounder. Webb finished fifth overall on beam and sixth on bars.
 
Webb most recently finished second in the all-around Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood with 37.900. She tallied a 9.775 on bars and a 9.725 on floor at the dual. Webb also posted a career-best vault of 9.525. She finished as the runner-up on bars. 
 
Webb previously notched a 9.750 on bars for fifth overall at the 2022 Tennessee Collegiate Classic. It was her first mark of 9.700 or higher of the 2022 campaign.
 
Webb finished third in the all-around competition Jan. 16 at Kent State's tri meet with 38.150. She competed in the all-around for the first time in her career after serving as a floor specialist in 2021. She notched a 9.650 on bars, a 9.550 on beam, a 9.500 on floor and a 9.450 on vault.

Season-Best at Arkansas
SEMO totaled a season-best team score of 194.150 in a dual meet against #13-ranked Arkansas Feb. 6 at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas. 
 
The Redhawks registered season-highs of 48.250 on vault in the second rotation and a 48.950 on beam in the final event of the afternoon. The beam mark ranks 10th all-time in SEMO program history.
  
Jolie, Jolie, Jolie!!
Jolie Miller took third overall on bars with a career-best matching 9.875 Feb. 6 at Arkansas. She has registered the score three times on bars in her career as a Redhawk. She also had a 9.725 on beam at the dual. 
 
Miller most recently had a pair of 9.600s on vault and beam and a 9.700 on bars Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood.

Miller won the bars title with a career-best tying 9.875 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21. Miller matched a career-best in the anchor position to pace SEMO on the event. 
 
The junior from Aurora, Colorado, tied her PR set at the 2020 installment of the Tennessee Collegiate Classic. Miller won her first career event title with the score as a freshman in 2020 in Tennessee and grabbed her fourth career title with the same score Jan. 21, 2022. Miller also added a 9.500 on vault in her first time competing on the event as a Redhawk and a 9.800 on beam.
  
Jonesing for More Jo
Junior Jordan Jones has registered a beam mark of 9.725 or higher in all five meets this season for the Redhawks. 
 
Jones, a junior from Buford, Georgia, most recently tallied a 9.750 on beam and 9.700 on bars Feb. 11 in SEMO's home opener against Lindenwood.
 
Prior to that, Jones notched a 9.775 on beam at Arkansas on Feb. 6 with a season-high 9.750 on floor. 
 
Jones paced the Redhawks with a season-best 9.825 for second overall on beam at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 21. 
 
At Lindenwood Dual Recap 
SEMO totaled a team score of 191.150 in a dual with Lindenwood Jan. 29 at the Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
 
SEMO registered a season-high floor score of 48.875. The Redhawks also had a 47.225 on vault, 47.675 on bars and a 47.375 on beam.
 
Jordan Jones compiled a 9.725 on beam and a season-high 9.700 on floor. For Jones the 9.725 was her second on beam in 2022.
  
Tennessee Collegiate Classic Recap
Southeast Missouri tallied a team score of 193.375 for third overall at the 2022 Tennessee Collegiate Classic Jan. 21 at the Farm Bureau Exposition Center.
 
Jolie Miller won the bars title with a career-best tying 9.875. Molly Maxwell was third in the all-around competition with a season-high total of 38.450.
 
SEMO opened the tri with a 47.700, followed by a 48.675 on bars, 48.750 on beam and 48.250 on floor.
 
Jolie Miller and Molly Maxwell hit 9.800s in the first and fourth beam slots, respectively. Maxwell also posted a 9.725 on floor in the final rotation.
 
Nyah Reader registered a career-high on vault (9.550) and a beam score of 9.675 at the tri.
 
Ashley Albrecht added a 9.325 on vault and 9.575 on bars in her second meet back from injury.
    
2022 Season Opener Recap
SEMO opened its 2022 season with a team score of 191.500 Jan. 16 at Kent State's tri meet held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Host Kent State won the tri with a team score of 195.300. Northern Illinois was second with 194.150 and SEMO was third at the tri with a mark of 191.500.

The Redhawks best event at the tri was 48.050 on bars. SEMO also had a 47.850 on floor, a 47.825 on beam and 47.775 on vault. 
 
Jolie Miller and Lindsay Ockler led SEMO with consecutive 9.800s in the final two bars lineup slots, which tied for fifth overall.
 
Jordan Jones was the second highest Redhawk on beam, notching a 9.725 to take seventh overall at the meet.
  
SEMO Debuts
Madison GreeneLindsay Ockler and Nyah Reader all made their Redhawk debuts at Kent State's tri meet Jan. 16. Janelle Lopez competed as an exhibitionist on bars.
 
Welcome Back, RED!!!
Ashley Albrecht returned to the Redhawks vault and bars lineups at Kent State's tri meet Jan. 16 after suffering an injury during the 2021 season. She posted a 9.675 on bars and a 9.100 on vault in her first meet back from injury since Feb. 22, 2021, against Lindenwood.
  
Roster Breakdown
SEMO returns 12 student-athletes from the 2021 USA Gymnastics National Championship Team. Anna Kaziska, who represented SEMO at the 2021 NCAA Regionals, returns for her senior season. She captured 11 event titles (37 in her career entering 2022) including the 2021 USAG Beam title this past season. Ashley Albrecht and Makenzie Marciniak complete the senior class.
 
Juniors Jordan JonesMolly MaxwellJolie Miller (the 2021 USAG and MIC Bars Bronze Medalist), Mallory Desch and Taylor Fishkin, along with sophomores Anna Speller (the 2021 MIC Championships Beam Bronze Medalist), Lydia TestLydia Webb and Sophia Studdard round out the returners.
 
The Redhawks also added four newcomers in freshmen Lindsay OcklerNyah ReaderJanelle Lopez and Madison Greene. Both Ockler and Reader competed at SEMO's Red & Black Intrasquad in December. Ockler trains all four events and has the potential to compete as an all-arounder in her freshman campaign in 2022.
 
2021 Signees
SEMO head coach Ashley Lawson announced Nov. 10 the team had inked two student-athletes during the early signing period. Taylor Ingle and Sydney Crouch will join the team next fall for the 2023 season.
 
Ingle, a Coppell, Texas native, will graduate from Coppell High School in 2022. She was a state, regional and National qualifier in her junior year. Ingle most recently won the 2021 state championship with Texas Dream Gymnastics.
 
Crouch, who comes to Cape Girardeau by way of Coral Springs, Florida, will graduate from Coral Springs Charter School in 2022. She was a State, Regional and National Qualifier in 2021 during her junior year.
 
2022 Schedule
The Redhawks will compete in 12 meets while hosting two home competitions with fellow Midwest Independent Conference institutions Illinois State and Lindenwood.
 
The Redhawks head to Centenary in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 4 before a marquee quad meet against host, Texas Woman's, perennial powerhouse, Oklahoma, and Air Force, March 6 in Denton, Texas. SEMO concludes the regular season at Illinois State March 12 in Normal, Illinois.
 
The Redhawks will then travel back to Denton, Texas, for the 2022 MIC Championship, which will be contested on Friday, March 18 at Texas Women's University.
 
To wrap up the season, SEMO will travel to the Empire State to defend its 2021 crown at the 2022 USA Gymnastics National Championship April 7-10 in Ithaca, New York. The competition will be held on the campus of Cornell.
 
2021 USA Gymnastics National Champions
The Redhawks captured the 2021 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship April 10 at the Show Me Center with a team score of 195.025. Trailing Lindenwood 145.725-145.650 entering the final rotation, SEMO tied a program-best 49.375 on beam to secure the Championship.
 
SEMO's beam score of 49.375 matched the program-record set at the 2003 MIC Championships (March 29, 2003) where head coach Ashley Lawson (then Godwin) led SEMO on the event with a 9.975. SEMO also recorded a 48.900 on vault at the 2021 USAG Championship, which tied for the seventh-highest score in SEMO program history.
 
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso won the 2021 USA Gymnastics All-Around crown with 39.225. Makenzie Marciniak was awarded the Mari Rae Sopper Spirit Award at the conclusion of the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships. Head coach Ashley Lawson was named the Ken Anderson USAG Coach of the Year for the second-straight season at the conclusion of the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships. Assistant coach Andavea Alexander was selected as the 2021 USAG Assistant Coach of the Year
 
SEMO earned 18 USA Gymnastics All-American selections. Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso was named a First Team All-American for all-around, bars, beam and floor. Anna Kaziska garnered First Team laurels for vault, beam and floor. Jolie Miller was named a First Team All-American for bars and beam. Molly Maxwell was named to the First Team for all-around and beam and the Second Team for floor. Michael Sanders (vault), Gabrielle Adams (vault), Lindsey Bates (bars), Anna Speller (beam), Alana Fischer (beam) and Jordan Jones (floor) were also awarded First Team honors.
 
2021 in Review
SEMO registered a team score of 194.825 to take third at the 2021 Midwest Independent Conference Championships March 19 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State. Eight Redhawks earned All-MIC honors for their performances at the Championships and head coach Ashley Lawson was named the 2021 MIC Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the meet. For Lawson, it was her second-straight season earning the honor.
 
SEMO averaged a team score of 193.498 in 2021 including six-straight marks of 194 or higher to conclude the season. The Redhawks season-high of 195.150 achieved against Illinois State and Lindenwood on Senior Day (March 12) ranks 10th all-time in SEMO program history. The Redhawks averaged a 48.000 plus on every event this season including a 48.555 on beam, 48.527 on floor, 48.236 on vault and 48.180 on bars. The SEMO season-best floor score of 49.225 posted on March 12 ranks ninth in the school's record books.
 
Redhawks Crushing it in the Classroom 
Southeast Missouri ranked 13th among the nation's top Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) academic teams for the 2020-21 season. SEMO posted a 3.78 GPA with 18 of its student-athletes named Academic All-Americans. Over 94 percent of the 2021 Redhawks roster registered a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Each of these student-athletes either had a 3.5 overall GPA or carried a 3.5 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year.

Looking Ahead
SEMO next hosts Illinois State Friday, Feb. 25 on Senior Night at Houck Field House. First rotation is slated for 6:30 p.m., CT. The Redhawks will recognize seniors Anna Kaziska, Makenzie Marciniak and Ashley Albrecht for their careers at SEMO at the dual.
