Redhawks Host LeMoyne-Owen College Friday at Show Me Center 
Southeast Missouri women's basketball (1-2) will face LeMoyne-Owen College (0-3) Friday at the Show Me Center. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT.

Series History
Friday will mark the first meeting in program history for the two schools. 
 
Scouting the Opponent
LeMoyne-Owen College has a tight schedule this week as they face the Redhawks two days after playing at Fisk on Nov. 16. 
 
LeMoyne-Owen started their season 0-3 losing to Mississippi College on Nov. 11, 61-52, before a 61-39 loss Delta State University. The Magicians most recently fell to Fisk 64-54 in overtime. Afrika Lewis led LeMoyne-Owen with 13 points, shooting 6-for-11. 

LeMoyne-Owen College is NCAA Division II institution located in Memphis, Tennessee. The Magicians compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 
 
Opening Weekend Recap 
After their home-opening victory on Nov. 7, the Redhawks dropped a pair of Southeastern Conference's (SEC) road contests at Ole Miss (83-57, Nov. 10) and at Missouri (62-50, Nov. 13) this past week. 
 
Kennedi Watkins totaled 34 points (11.3ppg) with 11 boards (3.70rpg) over SEMO's opening week of the 2022-23 season. She opened the 2022-23 season with 11 points in SEMO's 60-48 home-opening win over UHSP on Nov. 7. Watkins shot 40 percent (4-for-10) with seven boards, two steals and a block. She then added 11 points at Ole Miss on Nov. 10, going 3-for-5 from the field and 5-for-5 on free throws with two assists and two steals. Watkins wrapped the week with 12 points at Missouri on Nov. 13, shooting 6-for-11 with four boards and a steal. Watkins has finished in double-digits scoring in six-straight games dating back to the 2021-22 season.
 
Rahmena Henderson totaled 34 points (11.3ppg) with nine boards (3.0rpg) to lead the Redhawks in SEMO's opening week of the 2022-23 season. Henderson scored 10 points in her SEMO debut and first career start in the Redhawks' 60-48 home-opening win over UHSP on Nov. 7. She was 4-for-14 from the field including 50 percent from distance with five rebounds, three steals, a block, and an assist. Henderson added a career-high 13 points at Ole Miss on Nov. 10, shooting 25 percent, 3-for-8 from three-point range with three rebounds and two assists. She concluded the week with 11 points at Missouri on Nov. 13, shooting 27 percent with a rebound, an assist and a steal.
 
Alecia Doyle totaled 17 points (5.7ppg) with eight rebounds (2.7rpg) in SEMO's opening week of the 2022-23 season. She had five points against UHSP (Nov. 7) before a career-high six at both Ole Miss (11/10) and Missouri (11/13). Doyle added five boards against UHSP with two assists and a steal. She shot 3-for-7 at Ole Miss and 2-for-3 at Missouri. Doyle made her first career start and SEMO debut against UHSP.

Kori Tomlin made three starts over the week, averaging 5.3 points with 2.3 assists. She opened the 2022-23 campaign with 10 points, four assists and three steal against UHSP (Nov. 7). 
 
SEMO forced Missouri to commit 23 turnovers Nov. 13 after forcing 21 at Ole Miss earlier in the week on Nov. 10. 
 
UHSP Season-Opener Recap
Four Redhawks finished in double-digits scoring as SEMO overcame the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy, 60-48, Nov. 7 at the Show Me Center.
 
Kiyley Flowers and Kennedi Watkins led SEMO with 11 points each while Rahmena Henderson and Kori Tomlin each chipped in 10. Flowers also registered four rebounds, four steals, and an assist, while going 3-for-4 from three-point range in her Redhawks debut. 
 
Watkins, a 2022-23 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Selection, hauled down seven boards to pace the Redhawks to go with two steals and a block while shooting 40 percent.
 
She has now registered four-straight double-digit games dating back to the 2021-22 season. 
 
Henderson, a junior Kilgore College transfer from Neptune, New Jersey, made her first career start at SEMO, shooting 4-for-14 (2-for-4 on threes) with five rebounds, three steals, a block, and an assist for 10 points in a team-high 34 minutes. 
 
Halle Smith totaled five points including a three-pointer to go with three rebounds in the start. 
 
Jaliyah Green forced a team-high four steals with two rebounds in the start. 
 
Welcome Back Sophie Bussard!!
Redshirt junior Sophie Bussard returned to the hardwood Nov. 7 after suffering a season-ending injury prior to the 2021-22 campaign. The Silver Lake, Indiana, native, started in all 26 games as a sophomore in 2020-21 and was fourth on the Redhawks with 230 points (8.8 points/game) while leading the conference in court time.
 
Against UHSP, Bussard totaled eight points with six rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench. Bussard also recorded an assist, a block, and a steal in the contest while shooting 3-for-7.
 
Redhawk Debuts
Seven Redhawks made their program debuts over the opening week. Rahmena Henderson and Kiyley Flowers both made two starts over the three games while Alecia Doyle and Tamia Stallings each had a start. 
 
Stallings finished with a SEMO career-best nine points in her second career game as Redhawk, going 4-for-7 from the field with four rebounds, two assists and two steals at Ole Miss on Nov. 10. 
 
Flowers led SEMO at Missouri Nov. 13 with a career-high (at SEMO) eight rebounds, five steals, and a trio of assists in 25 minutes. She also had 11 points against UHSP (Nov. 7) and eight at Ole Miss (Nov. 10).

Tykara Harrison, Julia Sion, and Tyra Brown also all saw action over the three games. 
 
New Faces
Six SEMO student-athletes made their Redhawk debuts in the season opener Monday against University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy including freshman Alecia Doyle and junior Rahmena Henderson who were both featured in the Starting Five. 
 
Doyle, a Herrin, Illinois, native, tallied five points (2-for-10) with five boards, two assists, and a steal in 22 minutes. 
 
Tamia Stallings grabbed a pair of rebounds with a block. 
 
Tyra Brown, Julia Sion and Kiyley Flowers also made their SEMO debuts in the win.
 
Oh Captains, My Captains
Head coach Rekha Patterson announced on October 31, Kori Tomlin, Sophie Bussard, and Tamia Stallings were selected as team captains for the 2022-23 season. This year is the first for the trio in the leadership roles. 
 
Watkins Named to 2022-23 Preseason All-OVC Team
Sophomore forward Kennedi Watkins was named to the 2022-23 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Women's Basketball Team, the league announced Oct. 18.
 
For Watkins, a Ballwin, Missouri, native, the preseason OVC honor is the first in her career.
 
She was named OVC Freshman of the Week twice during the 2021-22 season and was fourth on the team offensively with 207 points (8.3ppg). Watkins led SEMO with 17 blocks and competed in 25 games with 13 starts as a true freshman. She hauled down 138 rebounds (5.5rpg) with 32 steals. Watkins shot .446 from the field and finished in double-figures scoring 12 times and had double-digit rebounds twice. She registered a career-high 14 points on three occasions in 2021-22 including both conference games against SIUE. In OVC contests, Watkins averaged 8.8 points with 5.3 boards. 
 
Redhawks Eighth in OVC Preseason Poll
Southeast Missouri was selected to finish the season eighth in the OVC with 61 total points.
 
Tennessee Tech was picked to finish first overall in the league in 2022-23. The Golden Eagles earned 11 first place votes for 147 total points and had three players listed on the preseason team in Jada Guinn, Jordan Brock, and Anna Walker. TTU notched a 21-11 overall mark (14-4 OVC) in 2021-22 and finished as the OVC Tournament Runners-up to Belmont. The Golden Eagles competed in two rounds of the 2022 WNIT Tournament. 
 
Lariah Washington of Eastern Illinois was named the 2022-23 Preseason OVC Player of the Year.
  
Team Makeup
The Redhawks return four starters from the 2021-22 season in senior guard Kori Tomlin along with sophomores Kennedi Watkins, Halle Smith, and Jaliyah Green.
 
The trio of Watkins, Smith, and Green combined for five OVC Freshman of the Week honors last season.
 
Other returners from the 2021-22 squad include redshirt junior Sophie Bussard, Chandler Davis, Julia Sion, Michaela Mayfield, and Diona Reed
 
Sion will make her Redhawks debut after transferring to SEMO midseason (Jan. 2022) from North Alabama.
 
The Redhawks also added six newcomers including four transfers in Tyra Brown from Coastal Carolina, Tamia Stallings from Alabama State, Rahmena Henderson from Kilgore College, and Kiyley Flowers from Grand Canyon.
 
The roster also features a pair of freshmen in Tykara Harrison and Alecia Doyle.
 
Head coach Rekha Patterson returns for her eighth season at the helm of the program.
 
SEMO went 6-23 in 2021-22 with a 2-16 OVC mark. 
 
2022-23 Schedule
The Redhawks will compete in 29 total games including 14 at the Show Me Center this season. 
 
SEMO's non-conference schedule features 11 games including five home matchups starting against UHSP (Nov.7), followed by LeMoyne-Owen College (Nov. 18), Rust College (Dec. 1), Western Illinois (Dec. 7) and Illinois-Chicago (Dec. 20). 
 
The Redhawks take a trip to Oxford, Mississippi, on Nov. 10 to take on Ole Miss for their first road contest, before continuing the week at Missouri (Nov. 13). 
 
SEMO celebrates Thanksgiving at UCF's (Central Florida) Tournament Nov. 26-27 in Orlando, Florida, playing Rhode Island and UCF. 
 
Following that trip, SEMO will face Kansas (Dec. 4) and Evansville (Dec. 18).
 
The Redhawks will then play an 18-game double round-robin OVC schedule, starting at Southern Indiana on Dec. 29.
 
Looking Ahead
Following Friday's home game, the Redhawks will next play in the Central Florida Tournament in Orlando, Florida, Nov. 26-27. SEMO will face Rhode Island before taking on Central Florida at the tournament.
