CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri track & field will host the Redhawks Invite Saturday afternoon at the SEMO Rec Center.
Field events will open the competition Saturday with pole vault at 12:30 p.m., CT. Running events will follow, starting with the 55 meter hurdles at 3 p.m.
SEMO will compete against UT Martin, Central Baptist, Arkansas Baptist and Columbia of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
This will be the second competition of the 2021-22 season for SEMO, most recently opening the campaign at Purdue's Fred Wilt Open in West Lafayette, Indiana, Dec. 4, 2021.
The Redhawks started their season with a strong performance in both track and field events at the Open.
Nicole Humphreys won both the women's shot put (45-5.5, 13.83m) and weight throw (62-4, 19.00m) while achieving two personal bests in the process. Her weight throw distance tied Heather Jenkins (2004) for third overall in Redhawks program history.
Humphreys was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. She ranks first in the conference for both events and the honor marks the first weekly award in her career at SEMO.
Megan Deimeke and
Makenzie Williams finished in second and third place in weight throw with throws of 57-6.5 (17.54m) and 54-4 (16.56m), respectively.
Deimeke, a transfer from USC Upstate, took second with 43-10.5 (13.37m) and Williams was fifth (36-7.75, 11.17m).
Dillon Lay finished in first place in the men's 200 meters, clocking in a personal best 23.37. Teammate
Anthony Forrest came in second for the event with a final time of 23.86.
On the women's side,
Sandrea Cogio won the race by a time of 27.24.
Luke Hatfield-Jackson registered a first-place finish with a final high jump of 6-10.75 (2.10m). Teammate Mason Clough took second (6-4.25, 1094m).
Hatfield-Jackson also took home first place in the long jump with a final jump of 24-4.5 (7.43).
DeGraaf finished tied for first place with Grant Gogel of Purdue in the men's pole vault with a mark of 15-4.25 (4.68m).
Jack Rinehart finished third in the event with a mark of 14-10 (4.52m) and
Jon Bissell had a height of 13-2.25 (4.02m).
In the women's 600 meters race,
Brianna Payton took first place with a time of 1:45.72 while teammate
Erika Mellor took second in a time of 1:45.99.
In the men's shot put, the Redhawks placed third, fourth and fifth. Marshall Swadley finished third with an overall distance of 52-8.75 (16.07m).
Clay Alewelt (51-9, 15.77m, PR) and
Dylan Clark (51-7.25, 15.73m) rounded out the top five for the event.
Clark and Alewelt combined for third (62-6.75m, 19.07m, PR) and fourth (56-8.75, 17.29m, PR) in the men's weight throw.
In the women's high jump,
Kaitlyn McGinnitey (5-3.25, 1.61m, fourth),
Ellie Gamradt (5-1.75, 1.57m, fifth), and
Sophie Dubis (4-10.5, 1.49m, sixth) represented the Redhawks in the event.
McGinnitey also was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.11
Lauryn James took first place in the women's long jump over Purdue's Vinajah Adderley with a jump of 18-11.25 (5.77m).
Ciara Potter took fourth posting a jump of 17-3.5 (5.27m).
The Redhawk men went second (8.30), fourth (8.38), fifth (8.48), sixth (8.82), seventh (8.85), and eighth (9.25), respectively, in the 60 meter hurdles with Forrest (PR),
Shea DeGraaf (PR),
Brock Wood, Lay,
Isaac Readnour (PR), and
Jon Bissell all competing for SEMO.
Breanna Miles (7.76),
Lauryn James (7.87), and Cogio (7.93) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 60 meters.
Wood was fifth in the men's 60 meters, finishing in 7.20. Lay (7.23, sixth) and
Colin Schwab (7.26, seventh) also ran in the sprint for the Redhawk men.
Terrico Garrett led the way for the Redhawks in the 500 meters. Garrett notched a time of 1:06.26 for second.
Markeith Crawford finished just behind Garrett with a time of 1:06.29.
Austin Perkins added a time of 1:09.64 (fifth) in the 500 meters. On the women's side, Miles completed the race in 1:23.63 (third).
Katie Schumer and
Skylar Prescott surpassed pole vault heights of 10-11.75 (3.35m, sixth) and 10-0 (3.05m, seventh), respectively.
Colin Schwab (36.42) placed second in the men's 300 meters with Crawford (37.62) and Xzavier Bartlett (37.63) finishing third and fourth for the event. Garrett (38.00) and
Austin Perkins (39.30) also competed in the distance for SEMO.
Schuyler Ogden finished the men's 3000 meters in first place with an overall time of 9:17.08.
Finishing up the Fred Wilt Open was the men's 4x400 meter relay that saw two different Redhawk foursomes race in the event.
SEMO finished third and fourth with marks of 3:29.22 and 3:33.52, respectively, in the relay. Schwab, Wood, Garrett and Bartlett placed third, while Crawford, Readnour, Perkins, and Bissell took fourth.
The Redhawks next head to Terre Haute, Indiana, to compete at Indiana State's John Gartland Invitational Jan. 22.
