In 2020-21, Southeast Missouri won its first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup, the league's ultimate symbol of overall athletic excellence in Conference-sponsored championships.
 
While competing in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic, the Redhawks celebrated a dominating spring season bolstered by first-place finishes in women's tennis, women's track & field, softball and baseball, and a second-place finish in men's track & field. SEMO also posted third-place finishes in women's basketball, soccer and volleyball. The Redhawks accumulated 119 points, 7.5 points ahead of second-place Belmont (111.5) to claim this year's OVC Commissioner's Cup.
 
Throughout the summer, we'll take a closer look at the most successful year in SEMO Athletics Division I history.
 
Cross Country // Notes
 
• Southeast Missouri women's cross country finished fourth at the 2020-21 OVC Cross Country Championship in the 5K with 101 points. The Redhawk men finished seventh in the 8K with 169 points
 
• Katie Wegmann earned Second-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors at the 2020-21 OVC Cross Country Championship with a time of 19:54.0 for eighth in the 5K
 
• Carli Knott was named the 2020-21 OVC Female Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the Championship. She is the first Redhawk to earn the laurel voted on by OVC coaches, since Lindsey Zeiler captured the award in 2002. Knott notched second and fourth place finishes in the first two SEMO regular-season races of the season
 
• The Redhawk women's scorers finished in the top-35 of the 5K at the 2020-21 OVC Cross Country Championship. Maddie Keller completed the Championship race in 20:16.0 (16th) after Katie Wegmann (eighth) and Jane Boessen placed 20th, clocking in at 20:29.0. Carli Knott posted the fourth fastest Redhawks time with 20:33.0 in the 5K for 22nd. Hannah Eastman rounded out the SEMO scorers with a mark of 21:21.0 for 35th
 
• On the men's side, Terrico Garrett led the Redhawks with a time of 28:56.2 for 25th in the 8K at the 2020-21 OVC Championship. Schuyler Ogden (29:10.7, 31st), Noah Little (29:27.5, 34th), Chris Durr (29:50.7, 39th) and Aaron Modrow (29:53.4, 40th) completed the SEMO top-five at the Championship
 
• The SEMO women placed in the top-three at each regular-season race this season, including first at the Redhawks Invitational while the men placed fourth to start the 2020-2021 campaign on Jan. 23
 
• Carli Knott led SEMO with a mark of 18:04.6 for second overall at the Redhawk Invitational with Katie Wegmann finishing just after with a personal-best 18:06.8 for third. Chris Durr led the men with a mark of 25:40.8 for 17th at the home Invitational
 
• Carli Knott and Katie Wegmann also placed in the top 10 at the Eastern Illinois Spring Open on Feb. 6. Knott was clocked at 18:53.1 (fourth) and Wegmann finished with a time of 19:02.7 (sixth). Aaron Modrow led the Redhawk men with a 15th place showing, recording a time of 25:58.4 in the 8K race in Charleston, Illinois. Noah Little claimed a top-20 finish with a time of 26:15.5 (19th)
 
• Katie Wegmann was named the OVC Female Runner of the Week after she captured first at the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Invitational on Feb. 19, for her first career top cross country finish. Wegmann finished the 5K race with a time of 18:27.4
 
• SEMO had three women finish in the top-15 at the Golden Eagle Invitational and had all of their scorers in the top-20. Jane Boessen was the second fastest Redhawk, completing the race in 19:06.2 for ninth. Maddie Keller followed in 19:10.8 for 11th
 
• The Redhawk men placed second at the Golden Eagle Invitational with Aaron Modrow completing the race in 23:37.2 for eighth. He led the Redhawk men who had all of their scorers finish in the top-20
 
• Katie Wegmann, Maddie Keller and Jane Boessen scored in all four meets in 2020-21 for the women. Carli Knott and Hannah Eastman each finished in the top-five three times and Claire Morrill scored twice for the Redhawks
 
• Freshman Noah Little and Terrico Garrett scored in all four meets for the Redhawk men. Chris Durr, Schuyler Ogden and Aaron Modrow finished in the top-five three times in 2020-21. Seth Gleason (2) and Thomas Doss (1) also scored for SEMO during the campaign
 
• The SEMO men's team returns eight of 10 runners in 2021 while the Redhawk women's team will return nine of 10 this upcoming season. Head coach Ryan Lane said both teams have big expectations for the fall
 
• "We should see an incredible team in the future with our youth performing as well as it did," head coach Ryan Lane said of the men's team in 2020-21 which featured four freshmen, two sophomores, one junior, and one senior
 
• Southeast Missouri men's and women's cross country both earned All-Academic team status for the 2020-21 cross country season from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Redhawks women registered a GPA of 3.7 and the SEMO men posted a 3.23
