Cross Country Wrapped Up Its Season in Oklahoma

Stillwater, Okla. -  The Southeast Missouri cross country teams wrapped up its season competing at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Friday morning.

The team was represented by nine runners.

"I am really overall pleased with how we preformed," said coach Ryan Lane. "These are all people who we expect to help us significantly on the track and it is important to finish on a high note. Even with partial teams we still finished significantly higher than last year's regionals."

Nova Ojutkangas was the highest finisher for the Redhawks finishing the women's 6k race in 63rd with a time of 21:52.4. The other Redhawk women who finished included Daphne Bishop in 140th in 22:50.9, Lauren Eftink in 183rd in 23:27.4 and Kayla Vogelsang just behind Eftink in 185th with a mark of 23:29.2.

"Nova needed some more race, but we are excited for her first track season ahead," Lane said. "Daphne had a really great first look at this meet and we are really excited for her future. Kayla and Lauren both ran better than the last time they competed at the regionals, but all-around positive stuff from the women."

In the men's 10k race Nick Cimmarusti led the squad finishing in 80th place in 32:37.3. Shortly behind Nick was his fellow senior Garrett Dumke who finished in 88th with a time of 32:46.2. Dumke set a two-minute personal best mark in the 10k. Other finishers for SEMO included Jacob Blassingame in 126th in 33:34.1 which was a minute and a half personal best time over his time in last season's regional, Myles Thornburg in 171stwith a time of 34:41.3 and Clayton Eftink in 192nd with a mark of 36:26.5.

"Nick, Garrett and Jacob negative split the whole race and were mowing people down from the first split until the finish," said Lane. "All three had really terrific finishes to their cross country careers."
Overall, as a team, the men scored 647 points to finish in 23rd out of 30 teams and was the highest finishing OVC school ahead of Eastern Illinois who finished in 26th with 690 points and Western Illinois who finished in 30th
