Stillwater, Okla. - The Southeast Missouri cross country teams wrapped up its season competing at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Friday morning.
The team was represented by nine runners.
"I am really overall pleased with how we preformed," said coach
Ryan Lane. "These are all people who we expect to help us significantly on the track and it is important to finish on a high note. Even with partial teams we still finished significantly higher than last year's regionals."
Nova Ojutkangas was the highest finisher for the Redhawks finishing the women's 6k race in 63
rd with a time of 21:52.4. The other Redhawk women who finished included
Daphne Bishop in 140
th in 22:50.9,
Lauren Eftink in 183
rd in 23:27.4 and
Kayla Vogelsang just behind Eftink in 185
th with a mark of 23:29.2.
"Nova needed some more race, but we are excited for her first track season ahead," Lane said. "Daphne had a really great first look at this meet and we are really excited for her future. Kayla and Lauren both ran better than the last time they competed at the regionals, but all-around positive stuff from the women."
In the men's 10k race
Nick Cimmarusti led the squad finishing in 80
th place in 32:37.3. Shortly behind Nick was his fellow senior
Garrett Dumke who finished in 88
th with a time of 32:46.2. Dumke set a two-minute personal best mark in the 10k. Other finishers for SEMO included
Jacob Blassingame in 126
th in 33:34.1 which was a minute and a half personal best time over his time in last season's regional,
Myles Thornburg in 171
stwith a time of 34:41.3 and
Clayton Eftink in 192
nd with a mark of 36:26.5.
"Nick, Garrett and Jacob negative split the whole race and were mowing people down from the first split until the finish," said Lane. "All three had really terrific finishes to their cross country careers."
Overall, as a team, the men scored 647 points to finish in 23
rd out of 30 teams and was the highest finishing OVC school ahead of Eastern Illinois who finished in 26
th with 690 points and Western Illinois who finished in 30
th.
This meet wraps up the cross country season for the teams.
