CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (13-13, 7-5) split a doubleheader with Jacksonville State (12-14, 5-4) to claim its third Ohio Valley Conference series win of the season Saturday. The Redhawks rallied to win the nightcap, 8-3, after dropping game one, 8-4.

SEMO jumped on JSU early and never turned back in its game two victory.

Leading 3-0 after three-and-a-half innings, the Redhawks blew things open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Jevon Mason walked and stole second to quickly get into scoring position. Peyton Leeper reached on an error and Mason scored. Tyler Wilber followed with a sacrifice fly and Leeper scored. On the next play, Wade Stauss launched his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to right field, extending SEMO's lead to 7-0.

The Gamecocks scored twice in the top of the fifth, getting one run on a passed ball and another on a groundout.

A one-out double by Lincoln Andrews allowed Andrew Keck to score as the Redhawks extended their lead to 8-2 in the seventh inning.

Collin Wilma (1-0) earned his first win of the season. Wilma struck out three, walked one and allowed two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings.

Collin Casey (2-2) suffered the loss. Casey scattered four hits and gave up three runs, while walking three and striking out one in 2.1 frames.

Ahead, 4-3, after four innings, JSU used a three-run fifth inning to pull away in game one.

With two outs, Jaylyn Williams was hit by a pitch and Alex Strachan singled. Nash Adams was then hit by a pitch to load the bases before Alex Carignan walked in a run. Carson Crow drew a walk to score another run and Nash touched home on a passed ball giving the Gamecocks a 7-3 advantage.

Stauss homered to right field to get SEMO one more run in the fifth, but that was as close as the Redhawks would get.

SEMO outhit JSU, 12-10, with Tyler Wilber going 4-for-5 with one RBI to lead the way. Jevon Mason finished at 3-for-4 with two runs, a walk and one RBI.

Noah Niznik (1-3) fell to his third loss of the season. Niznik gave up seven runs and seven hits, walked three and struck out three in 4.2 innings.

Austin Downey (1-0) picked up his first win in relief. Downey gave way to Corley Woods who pitched three shutout innings en route to his fourth save this year.

For the doubleheader, Wilber registered five hits, while Mason and Austin Blazevic added four apiece. Mason extended his hitting streak to 10 games and now leads the Redhawks with a .418 batting average.

SEMO returns to action for a three-game series at Murray State on Apr. 9-10.
