Redhawks to Compete Against Kansas of the Big 12 Conference Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -  Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-3) will travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to compete against the Jayhawks (4-3) of the Big 12 Conference Saturday. Doubles will open the dual at 1 p.m., CT at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
 
SEMO is currently on a four-match winning streak after Daniela HlacikovaKsenia Shikanova and Lera Valeeva each notched singles and doubles wins in the dual victory over Bradley, 5-2, on Feb. 20 in Peoria, Illinois. The Redhawks have also beat Missouri State (twice) and Arkansas State during this win streak. 
 
The Redhawks captured their third doubles point of the season to open the contest with the Braves. Shikanova teamed up Valeeva for the win at the middle slot and Hlacikova combined with Teona Velkoska for the decision at no. 3 doubles.
 
Hlacikova won her sixth-straight singles match at Bradley. The freshman from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, paces the Redhawks with a 6-0 mark in 2021 and has played primarily at the no. 3 slot.
 
Lai (4-2) won her fourth straight match in 2021 at Bradley at the fifth singles position.
 
Valeeva secured her second career singles victory, easing by Nikki Perlwitz on Feb. 20. She is 2-0 this season at no. 6.
 
Shikanova (4-1) fought for her second-straight singles victory at no. 4 singles (3-1) against the Braves.
 
Romana Tarajova also has four singles wins in 2021, fashioning a 4-1 mark at the no. 2 position.
 
The Jayhawks improved to 4-3 this season after they defeated Iowa State, 4-3 on Feb. 27. Kansas is 3-1 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center this season.
 
Following this Saturday at Kansas, SEMO will return to Cape for a home-opening doubleheader against William Woods on Mar. 8.
