Redhawks Compete in First Road Dual Meet of 2021 Saturday at Illinois State
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics heads to Normal, Illinois, for their first road dual meet of the 2021 season Saturday against Illinois State. First rotation is slated for 2 p.m., CT at the Horton Field House. The Redhawks will start the meet on bars.

SEMO competed in a pair of road tri meets to commence the 2021 campaign. The Redhawks were scheduled to face Illinois State in their home opener on Jan. 24 but the meet was cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.

Scouting the Redbirds
Illinois State fell to Ball State, 194.425-187.975, in its season opener on Jan. 31 at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Indiana. The Redbirds recorded their highest score of the day on vault with a 47.850, as two gymnasts posted scores of 9.6 or above. ISU also had a solid rotation on floor, recording a 47.100 team score with two scores over 9.7.

Sofia Iribarren, Charlise Doctor and Savannah Remkus each competed in the all-around for ISU, with Iribarren leading the way with a 38.375 thanks to a 9.800 score on bars.

DSC with the Second-Straight MIC HonorÂ
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso was awarded Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, the league announced Wednesday. Solorzano-Caruso paced the Redhawks on every event besides beam for three individual event titles as SEMO edged Texas Woman's, 192.425-192.375, on Jan. 29 at Houck Field House.

The sophomore from Courtice, Ontario, Canada, captured the vault (9.850), bars (9.775) and all-around (39.200) titles in SEMO's home opener against the Pioneers. It was the third straight meet, that Solorzano-Caruso had won the all-around crown and her second consecutive 39.000 plus total. She has now won five events in 2021 and 14 in her career.Â

Solorzano-Caruso led the Redhawks on floor with a career-best 9.850 for third overall at the meet. She also registered a 9.725 in the anchor position for fourth at the dual on beam.

The weekly honor marks the fourth for Solorzano-Caruso in her career as she was awarded MIC Newcomer of the Week twice in her freshman campaign in 2020.

TWU Dual RecapÂ
Trailing by less than a point entering the final rotation of the evening, SEMO utilized a 48.525 floor mark to edge Texas Woman's, 192.425-192.375, Jan. 29 at Houck Field House. SEMO opened its home opener with a 48.475 on vault. The Redhawks then posted a 46.925 on bars. SEMO rebounded in the third rotation, compiling a 48.500 on beam to set the team up for their comeback on floor.

Two Competition Win Streak
After taking third at their season-opening, tri meet with Texas Woman's and Lindenwood, the Redhawks have captured the top spot at their last two competitions. Prior to its home opening victory over TWU, SEMO overcame Lindenwood and Northern Illinois at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic with a season-high 193.950.

What a Debut for Webb
Lydia Webb punctuated the Redhawks season-high floor score (48.525) on Jan. 29 with a 9.800 in her SEMO debut. Webb, a freshman from Wylie, Texas, hit the routine in the anchor position to seal the comeback and finish fourth overall at the dual.

Speller is Stellar
Freshman
Anna Speller led the Redhawks in their beam rotation on Jan. 29 with a 9.775 in her third career collegiate meet competing on the event. The freshman from St. Louis, Missouri, finished third overall on the event with her personal-best mark. Speller has registered a 9.70 or higher in each of the two recent meets.

Leading Off Vault with G
Senior
Gabrielle Adams has hit a 9.700 or higher on vault in each of the past two meets. Adams has led off the vault lineup in all three meets this season and compiled a season-high 9.775 on Jan. 29 against Texas Woman's for second overall at the meet. Prior to that meet, Adams notched a 9.750 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 22.Â

Bates Dropping Bars
Lindsey Bates has registered a 9.750 on bars in each of the past two competitions for SEMO. Bates finished as the runner-up on Jan. 29 against Texas Woman's after totaling the mark. In her career, Bates has recorded 15 scores of 9.700 or higher.Â

Bates has also competed in the floor lineup each of the past two meets for her first two floor routines in competition since her freshman season on Feb. 23, 2018 at Centenary. She notched a 9.675 against TWU after posting a 9.575 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 22.

Junior
Makenzie Marciniak aka "Z" has notched a 9.550 on vault in each of the past two SEMO competitions.Â

Scheduling Notes
SEMO will now host a double-meet weekend in Cape Girardeau on Friday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks will take on Illinois State and Centenary in a tri meet on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. SEMO then will host Centenary in a dual that following Sunday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. Both meets will be held in the Show Me Center.Â

SEMO will head to Lindenwood for its dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m., CT. The meet was previously scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19.

The Redhawks home finale on Friday, March 12 will now be a tri meet with the addition of Illinois State. SEMO will compete against ISU and Lindenwood at Houck Field House on March 12 at 6:30 p.m., CT.

Looking Ahead
After Saturday, the Redhawks compete in the six-team GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational on Feb. 12 at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. SEMO closes out the streak of away competitions with a dual against Lindenwood on Feb. 19.
