CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics registered a season-best 195.050 to capture first at its tri meet with Midwest Independent Conference opponents Illinois State and Centenary Friday evening at the Show Me Center. SEMO etched its name in the school record books with a 49.125 on beam and a 49.200 on floor in the victory.
The beam mark ranks fourth all-time in SEMO history and the floor score puts the 2021 Redhawks ninth for the event in the record books. The team-score Friday is 12th overall in school history.
"Tonight was an amazing night, start to finish," head coach
Ashley Lawson said of the tri. "We had some last minute lineup changes and our girls showed up and competed tonight. I am beyond proud of this team and what they did tonight."
"We are peaking at the right time and as coaches that's all you can ask for. Their hard work is paying off and the trust is building. This season's success is limitless and we're going to continue to build each meet, each rotation and each routine."
Illinois State finished with 194.125 and Centenary totaled 183.425.
Anna Kaziska captured the beam title with her seventh career-best tying mark of 9.875. Kaziska and
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso (career-best) also tied for first at the tri on floor with consecutive 9.875s to conclude the meet.
Solorzano-Caruso placed second in the all-around competition with a total of 39.075.
SEMO never trailed in the meet and distanced themselves from the competition with strong season-high efforts in the final two rotations.
On beam, the Redhawks posted the top-five scores led by Kaziska for 49.125.
Alana Fischer (second) added a career-best 9.850 followed by
Lydia Test's personal-high 9.825 (third).
Anna Speller hit her second consecutive career-high 9.800 to take fourth on the event.
Solorzano-Caruso chipped in a 9.775 (fifth) and
Jolie Miller tallied a 9.475.
SEMO then recorded the top four overall floor marks to conclude the tri with a 49.200. The duo of Solorzano-Caruso (career-high) and Kaziska led the meet with a pair of 9.875s.
Jordan Jones posted a career-best 9.850 in her second meet of the 2021 season for third.
Lindsey Moffitt chipped in a personal-best 9.825 for fourth on her birthday.
Lydia Webb and
Molly Maxwell rounded out the SEMO rotation with 9.775 and 9.750, for sixth and seventh respectively Friday. The 9.750 was Maxwell's fourth career-best mark on floor.
The Redhawks opened the meet with a season-best 48.725 on vault.
Gabrielle Adams paced SEMO with a season-high 9.800 for third at the meet.
Kaziska and Solorzano-Caruso followed with 9.750 each. For Kaziska, it was her first vault since the season opener on Jan. 16 at Texas Woman's with Lindenwood.
Michael Sanders chipped in a 9.725 and Test had a career-best 9.700 to complete the scorers.
SEMO compiled a 48.000 on bars in the second rotation of the evening.
Alana Fischer led the team with a 9.700 for third at the meet. Solorzano-Caruso and
Jolie Miller each added 9.675 in the fourth and sixth lineup positions. Moffitt chipped in a 9.575 and Maxwell finished with 9.375.
SEMO completes its double-meet weekend Sunday with a dual meet against Centenary at the Show Me Center. First rotation is slated for 1 p.m., CT.
