Redhawks to Compete at Six-Team GymQuarters Invitational Friday
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics makes the short trip to St. Charles, Missouri, Friday for the six-team GymQuarters Invitational held at The Family Arena. SEMO will compete against Ball State, Illinois State, Lindenwood, Eastern Michigan and Air Force. 
 
First rotation is scheduled to commence at 6 p.m., CT. The Redhawks will open the meet on beam. Rotation order for SEMO is beam, first bye, floor, vault, second bye and bars. 
 
Last Time at the GymQuarters Invitational
Anna Kaziska and Lindsey Bates combined for three individual event titles, as SEMO took first at the 2020 edition of the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational on Feb. 14, 2020 at The Family Arena. SEMO posted a team score of 193.525 at the tri with Seattle Pacific (192.675) and Centenary (189.525).
 
Kaziska won the beam with her sixth career-best score of 9.875 (fourth in 2020). She also notched her third personal-high 9.900 (first in 2020) on floor for the title. Bates captured her first title of the 2020 season and sixth in her career with a 9.700 on bars in the opening rotation. Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso was second overall in the all-around with a total of 38.500.
 
Scouting the Opponents
Ball State
Ball State set a school record of 195.975 score on Feb. 6 for first in Eastern Michigan's quad meet with Kent State and Western Michigan. Victoria Henry won vault with a 9.925, scored 9.750 on bars and a 9.800 on floor. Claudia Goyco and Megan Teter both scored 9.900 on floor and Grace Evans won bars with a 9.875 score.
 
Illinois State 
Illinois State overcame SEMO, 192.075-190.925, in a home dual at the Horton Field House in Normal, Illinois, on Feb. 6. Angelica Labat (38.775) and Isabelle Fox (38.725) went one-two in the all-around. The Redbirds took the top four spots on vault, with J'Chelle Heard picking up the event win with a 9.725. Labat posted a bars set 9.750 to tie for second. Fox posted the top score on beam of 9.775 to win the event. The Redbirds dominated on floor, taking the top five spots with Cameron Topp leading the way for the win with a 9.750.
 
Lindenwood
The Lions edged Texas Woman's 195.250- 194.750 at the Hyland Arena on Jan. 31 in St. Charles, Missouri. Lindenwood scored a 48.900 on vault, led by Courtney Mitchell led (9.850). Mitchell and Savannah Newsome both scored 9.800 on bars. The Lions registered a 48.775 on beam. Kyndall Baze paced the Lions on floor (9.875). Hannah Moon compiled an all-around score of 38.850.
 
Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan finished second in the Eagle Invitational quad on Feb. 6, at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan, after scoring a season-high 195.800.  Cali Harden tied her career-high of 9.800 on vault, for third. Molly Parris topped the bars for EMU with a career-high 9.850, placing second, followed by Jada Rondeau, scoring 9.825, tying for third. Caitlin Satler won beam with a 9.925. Rondeau and Kara Roberts both scored 9.900, tying for first place on floor.
 
Air Force
Air Force scored a season-high 192.625 for second in a tri at Centenary with Texas Woman's on Feb. 7. The Falcons posted season high team scores on the vault (48.275) the uneven bars (48.100) and the floor exercise (48.275). Daija Stevenson had three first place finishes including a career-high 39.125 for first in the all-around competition. Stevenson also won floor and beam with 9.825 marks. Cam Barber scored a career-high 9.825 for first on bars.
 
Jolie, Jolie, Jolie, Jolie
Jolie Miller won the individual bars title with a season-high 9.825 at Illinois State on Feb. 6. Miller captured her second career event title with the mark, competing in the anchor position for the Redhawks. She then finished runner-up on beam with a career-best 9.750.
 
Miller has registered four scores of 9.700 or higher in 2021 and has eight in her career at SEMO.
 
She was awarded Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week on Wednesday for her bars title.
 
Illinois State Dual Recap
SEMO finished second in its dual at Illinois State on Feb. 6 with a total of 190.925. Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso tied for second on bars with a 9.750 and Lindsey Bates was fourth overall at the dual with 9.700. Alana Fischer took third at the dual on beam with a 9.700. Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso totaled a 38.325 in the all-around for third at the meet.
 
Bates Dropping Bars
Lindsey Bates has registered a 9.700 or higher on bars in each of the past three competitions. She notched a 9.700 at Illinois State on Feb. 6 for fourth overall at the meet. Prior to that competition, Bates had hit a pair of 9.750s at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic (1/22) and against Texas Woman's (1/29). 
 
Bates finished as the runner-up on Jan. 29 against Texas Woman's after totaling the mark. In her career, Bates has recorded 16 scores of 9.700 or higher. 
 
Bates has also competed in the floor lineup each of the past three meets for her first routines in competition since her freshman season on Feb. 23, 2018 at Centenary. She notched a 9.675 against TWU on Jan. 29 after posting a 9.575 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on Jan. 22.
 
TWU Dual Recap 
Trailing by less than a point entering the final rotation of the evening, SEMO utilized a 48.525 floor mark to edge Texas Woman's, 192.425-192.375, Jan. 29 at Houck Field House. SEMO opened its home opener with a 48.475 on vault. The Redhawks then posted a 46.925 on bars. SEMO rebounded in the third rotation, compiling a 48.500 on beam to set the team up for their comeback on floor.
 
What a Debut for Webb
Lydia Webb punctuated the Redhawks season-high floor score (48.525) on Jan. 29 with a 9.800 in her SEMO debut. Webb, a freshman from Wylie, Texas, hit the routine in the anchor position to seal the comeback and finish fourth overall at the dual.
 
Speller is Stellar
Freshman Anna Speller led the Redhawks in their beam rotation on Jan. 29 with a 9.775 in her third career collegiate meet competing on the event. The freshman from St. Louis, Missouri, finished third overall on the event with her personal-best mark. Speller has registered a 9.70 or higher in two out of the last three competitions.
 
Scheduling Notes
SEMO will now host a double-meet weekend in Cape Girardeau on Friday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks will take on Illinois State and Centenary in a tri meet on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. SEMO then will host Centenary in a dual that following Sunday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. Both meets will be held in the Show Me Center. Tickets for both meets are now available for purchase.
 
SEMO will head to Lindenwood for its dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m., CT. The meet was previously scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19.
 
The Redhawks home finale on Friday, March 12 will now be a tri meet with the addition of Illinois State. SEMO will compete against ISU and Lindenwood at Houck Field House on March 12 at 6:30 p.m., CT.
 
Looking Ahead
After Friday's GymQuarters Invitational, SEMO closes its three-competition road-swing at Lindenwood on Feb. 21 in St. Charles, Missouri, at the Hyland Arena. The Redhawks then return to Cape four a double-meet weekend on Feb. 26 and Feb. 28 at the Show Me Center.
