Redhawks Host UHSP to Open 2021-22 Season Tuesday
Southeast Missouri women's basketball (0-0) commences its 2021-22 regular season Tuesday when the Redhawks host the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy (UHSP in St. Louis) (1-3). Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT at the Show Me Center.

SEMO leads the all-time series with the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy (UHSP in St. Louis), 1-0.

The Redhawks downed the Eutectics, 75-44, Dec. 1, 2020, at the Show Me Center in SEMO's second game of the 2020-21 campaign.
Tesia Thompson scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures and the Redhawks dominated from start to finish.
LaTrese Saine added 12 points and a game-high four blocks, while
Sophie Bussard chipped in 13 points and
Roshala Scott had 11.

SEMO also beat UHSP, 91-45, in exhibition play to open the 2019-20 season on Oct. 30, 2019 at the Show Me Center.

Scouting the Eutectics
UHSP is 1-3 in the early 2021-22 season with a win over Tennessee Southern on Oct. 30 (83-81) to go along with losses to Bethel (70-56, Oct. 29), Kansas Wesleyan (76-73, Nov. 5) and Bethany College (74-63, Nov. 6).

Grace Beyer broke the UHSP record with 43 points in the Eutectic's 83-81 victory over Tennessee Southern on Oct. 30. She was named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week after her performance.

UHSP posted an 11-12 overall record in 2020-21 and was 6-10 in the AMC. The Eutectics fell to Columbia College in the AMC Tournament Quarterfinals. Head coach Jeff Reis is in his second season with UHSP. The Eutectics set numerous program records in 2020-21, earning the most wins (11) in their history and collecting their first NAIA All-American recipient in Beyer (28.7 PPG, led the AMC). Beyer, along with Elizabeth Allanach (13.9 PPG) and Makenzie Schierding (7.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG) also return.

UHSP is the second NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school that the Redhawks will face in 2021-22, after hosting William Woods in exhibition play on Nov. 1.

UHSP was pegged sixth in the AMC preseason poll.

OVC Preseason Poll
Southeast Missouri was selected to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2021-22. The Redhawks received 91 points in the projected order of finish.

Belmont, the 2020-21 OVC Tournament Champions, was selected to finish first with 15 first place votes and 159 total points in the preseason poll. Destinee Wells, the 2020-21 OVC Tournament MVP and Freshman of the Year from Belmont, was tabbed the 2021-22 OVC Preseason Player of the Year.

The Redhawks return four starters from its 2020-21 team in seniors
Taelour Pruitt and
Deanay Watson along with juniors
Roshala Scott and
Sophie Bussard.

Scott was third on SEMO this past season with 10.2 points per game (265 points) and ranked fifth in the OVC in 2020-21 with 3.4 assists per game. Pruitt averaged just under 10 points (9.9, 159 points) per game in 2020-21. Bussard netted 8.8 points per contest (230 points) and paced the OVC with 931:15 minutes of court time, averaging 35.82 minutes per game.

2021-22 Schedule
The Redhawks will play a 30-game schedule with 16 matchups at the Show Me Center during the 2021-22 season.
Â
Southeast Missouri will play 11 non-conference games to commence the season with home meetings against UHSP (Nov. 9), Arkansas State (Nov. 22), Southern Illinois (Nov. 30), Saint Louis (Dec. 3), Harris-Stowe (Dec. 5) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Dec. 9). SEMO will take a mid-November trip to the "Lone Star State" to face Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 15) and Texas of the Big 12 (Nov. 17). The Redhawks will trek to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to play Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 26) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 27) at Southern Mississippi's Thanksgiving Tournament. SEMO concludes non-conference play with a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on Xavier Dec. 19.

The Redhawks 2021-22 schedule also includes 18 Ohio Valley Conference matchups, playing each conference institution twice. SEMO will open league play at Murray State after Christmas break on Dec. 30. The Redhawks then host Austin Peay on Jan. 1 to ring in 2022.

2020-21 Season Recap
SEMO finished with an overall record of 15-11 and posted a 13-7 conference mark in 2020-21. The Redhawks qualified for their sixth-straight OVC Tournament as the #3 seed this past season.

Looking Ahead
After their regular-season home opener, the Redhawks will travel to Texas for a pair of non-conference games. SEMO will face Stephen F. Austin, Monday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Nacogdoches, Texas, before heading to Austin to take on Texas Wednesday, Nov. 17.
