Redhawks Sign Eight Student-Athletes for 2022 Soccer Season

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer head coach Heather Nelson announced Thursday the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2022 season.
 
Cayla Koerner, Alayna Jakul, Sophia Elfrink, Ella Baldwin, Macie Hockett, Zoe Houston, Sarah Pattillo, and Navi Washington will join the Redhawks this upcoming fall for the 2022 campaign.
 
Cayla Koerner
 
Cayla Koerner, a 5-6 forward from Mahomet, Illinois, will graduate from Mahomet-Seymour High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of Chris and Tricia Koerner, Cayla Koerner has registered 78 career goals and 49 career assists as a two-year starter at Mahomet-Seymour High School.
 
Cayla Koerner has two younger sisters, Cloey and Casyn.
 
Cayla Koerner tallied Mahomet-Seymour HS program records as a junior compiling 49 goals with 30 assists. Koerner has been named the Offensive MVP twice at Mahomet-Seymour HS.
 
She is coached by Jeremy Davis at Mahomet-Seymour HS and has helped the Bulldogs compile a 43-5 overall record to go along with conference and regional championships.
 
Koerner scored the second fastest goal in Illinois history this past spring, netting a goal in seven seconds.
 
She competes for Central Illinois Eclipse ECNL, which won the 2021 Illinois State Cup Championship. Brandon Menke coaches her at Central Illinois Eclipse ECNL.
 
Koerner also plays varsity basketball at Mahomet-Seymour HS and holds the school season record for steals. She has led the Bulldogs in scoring each of the past two seasons.
 
Cayla Koerner's grandfather, Charles Koerner, played football at SEMO with current Redhawk Emma Brune's grandfather, Greg Brune. Charles Koerner was named the SEMO Football Team MVP in 1966.
 
Koerner is a member of the National Honor Society and received an Academic Letter. She intends to major in Elementary Education at SEMO.

Alayna Jakul
 
Alayna Jakul, a 5-7 midfielder/forward from St. Charles, Missouri, will graduate from Orchard Farm High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of Shane and Dawn Stanley, Jakul is a two-year starter at Orchard Farm HS.
 
As a junior, Jakul registered 30 goals and 20 assists to earn Gateway Athletic Conference (GAC) Player of the Year as the Eagles won the league championship. She was also named to the GAC First-Team and All-Academic.

Jakul also competes for St. Louis Scott Gallagher under the instruction of Ralph Richards. St. Louis Scott Gallagher also produced current Redhawks Lauren Welker, Kate Daus, Lexi Grote, Emma Tucker and Natalie Jackson.
 
Academically, Jakul is a member of the National Honor Society and was named to the Saint Charles Community College Deans list. She is currently attending Saint Charles Community College in the Early College Program and will head to SEMO with her associate's degree.
 
Jakul is interested in studying Animal Science at Southeast Missouri.

Sophia Elfrink
 
Sophia Elfrink, a 5-10 goalkeeper from Columbia, Missouri, will graduate from David H. Hickman High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of John and Marcie Elfrink, Sophia Elfrink, is a three-year starter and letter-winner.
 
As a junior, she was named the All-Region Central Missouri Activities Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, all-district, all-conference and an All-State Honorable Mention All-State.
 
Elfrink compiled a 16-6 record in her junior campaign with 14 shutouts, one assist, and .059 goals against average.
 
Wilhem Ross coaches her at Hickman HS.
 
As a freshman captain at Father Tolton Catholic High School, Elfrink earned second-team all-state, all-district and second- team all-Conference honors.
 
She holds the single-season saves record and single-game saves record at Fr. Tolton Catholic HS and was coached by Chuck Register at Fr. Tolton Catholic HS.
 
Elfrink also plays basketball and has been awarded all-district and all-conference honors three times. She was selected to the Macon invitational All-Tournament Team and helped Hickman HS to a third place finish at the Southern Boone Tournament.
 
She plays club soccer for United Capital City under the instruction of Joren Trimble.
 
Elfrink boasts a 3.98 unweighted GPA in the classroom. She has taken five advanced placement classes in her high school career and has been named to the A Honor Roll at Fr. Tolton Catholic HS.
 
Elfrink has three cats and enjoys eating chips with guacamole and salsa. In her free time she can be found reading or watching cheesy crime shows.
 
She intends to major in Sports Management at SEMO and aspires to earn her master's and doctorate in Sports Psychology.

Ella Baldwin
 
Ella Baldwin, a 5-4 defender from Saukville, Wisconsin, will graduate from Cedarburg High School in 2022.
 
Baldwin, the daughter of Jason and Jill Baldwin, has been the starting defender for North Shore United Premier Teams since 2015 and has worn the captain's armband since 2020.
 
She also has served as a youth micro-program soccer coach for the past two years.
 
With North Shore United, Baldwin has helped North Shore United capture the WYSA State Championship in 2019 and 2020 and USYS Midwest Regional Championship in 2019. She was also a USYS National Semifinalist in 2019 and 2021.
 
Baldwin is coached by Sinisa Angelovski and Shannon Smyth at North Shore United. With the addition of Baldwin, SEMO will have four student-athletes from the club in 2022 with Zoey Memmel, Maddie Paulson and Elizabeth Rater.
 
Ella Baldwin's brother, Noal Baldwin, played on the Division I men's soccer team at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She also has a younger sister, Lily Baldwin.
 
Besides soccer, Ella Baldwin enjoys downhill skiing, horseback riding, swimming, painting and hiking.
 
In the classroom, she is an honor roll student and plans to major Animal Science at SEMO. Baldwin lives on a hobby farm in Wisconsin and is excited to continue her studies at Southeast Missouri.

Macie Hockett
 
Macie Hockett, a 5-9 defender from Glen Carbon, Illinois, will graduate from Edwardsville High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of Brian and Melissa Hockett, Macie Hockett, is a two-sport athlete at Edwardsville HS, competing in both soccer and track & field.
 
She was awarded all-conference honors for track & field in 2019 and was crowned the regional champion that season. Hockett also earned the Sprints/Breakthrough Award at Edwardsville HS.
 
In 2018, Hockett helped Edwardsville HS capture regional and sectional championships in soccer.

Hockett also competes for St. Louis Scott Gallagher under the instruction of Shawn Hewitt, Kelsey Dinges and former Redhawks goalkeeper, Kindra Lierz.
 
Hockett is one of three signees from the club heading to Cape Girardeau for the 2022 season with the Redhawks.
 
With St. Louis Scott Gallagher, Hockett has helped the team advance to ECNL Nationals in 2018 and 2019.
 
Top Drawer Soccer also rated her a two star player.
 
In the classroom, Hockett has been named to the High Honor Roll at Edwardsville HS.
 
She intends to major in Psychology with a minor in Public Interactions/Social Behaviors at SEMO.

MACIE_HOCKETT_SEMOSOCCER_2021
 
Zoe Houston
 
Zoe Houston, a 5-4 forward/midfielder from St. Charles, Missouri, will graduate from Francis Howell High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of Mark and Lorri Houston, Zoe Houston, is a four-year starter at Francis Howell HS. She has compiled 26 goals and 12 assists in her career with the Vikings.
 
As a junior, Houston registered 20 goals (eight game-winners) and 11 assists en route to Gateway Athletic Conference (GAC) South Conference Player of the Year honors along with first team all-conference, first team all-Region, first team all-state and second team all-metro accolades. She helped the Vikings capture the 2021 GAC South Conference Championship as well as a pair of district championships and state quarterfinals appearances.
 
She was also named the Francis Howell HS Offensive MVP and Post Dispatch Athlete of the Week.
 
In her freshmen season, Houston compiled six goals (two game-winners) with an assist while being tabbed Francis Howell HS Offensive MVP.

She competes for St. Louis Scott Gallagher under the instruction of Shawn Hewitt.
 
Houston has also been awarded Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Weekly Standout three times.
 
In the classroom, she is a member of the National Honor Society and is a three-time Honor Roll recipient.
 
Houston intends to major in Biology or Pre-Dental at SEMO.

Sarah Pattillo
 
Sarah Pattillo, a 6-1 goalkeeper, will graduate from Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama in 2022. Pattillo hails from Katy, Texas, and recently moved to Alabama after previously attending Katy High School the past three years.
 
She will play her senior season for Tom Pruett at Huntsville HS.
 
Pattillo registered 28 shutouts, 881 saves, a .900 save percentage and 0.98 goals against average in three seasons at Katy HS. She also recorded four assisted and stopped five of the seven penalty kicks she faced.
 
Pattillo was named to the first-team all-district as a sophomore, tallying 15 shutouts, 31 saves and a .910 save percentage (1.00 GAA).
 
Dianne Loftin coached Pattillo at Katy HS. Pattillo helped Katy advance to the District playoffs as well as capture the I-10 Shootout Championship and finish as a Birmingham Bash Semifinalist.
 
She competes for the North Alabama Soccer Coalition under the instruction of Chris Beatty and Charlie Wilson. Pattillo was a member of Texas Challenge before relocating to Alabama.
 
In the classroom, Pattillo is a four-year academic all-district honoree.
 
The daughter of Mindy De Fazio and Mark Pattillo, Sarah Pattillo aspires to be a professional pilot. Her stepfather is Vic De Fazio. Sarah Pattillo's brother is a member of the collegiate fishing team at the University of Alabama.

Navi Washington
 
Navi Washington, a 5-4 forward from Lee's Summit, Missouri, will graduate from Lee's Summit West High School in 2022.
 
The daughter of Ivan Washington and Sareth Eng-Washington, Navi Washington, is a two-year letter winner and starter at Lee's Summit West. Her father played football at Mississippi Valley State University.
 
As a member of Lee's Summit West soccer team, Washington has helped the Titans finish in the final four three of the last four seasons. She is coached by Shaun Owens at Lee's Summit West HS.
 
Washington plays club for Kansas City Scott Gallagher where she has won a pair of Kansas State Cup Championships. At Kansas City Scott Gallagher she is coached by Dan Brown. Kansas City Scott Gallagher is the only Kansas team to qualify for the National League P.R.O. Conference.
 
Washington is also a two-time Olympic Development Program (ODP) participant and three-time regional ODP participant. Washington ranked in the top 11 in National League play at forward.
 
Besides soccer, Washington is a two-time National Futsal Champion and a five-time Junior Olympics National Qualifier in track & field (100 meters and 200 meters).
 
Washington is an honor roll student at Lee's Summit West and has played the violin for the past six years.  
 
Washington intends to pursue Nursing or Health Sciences at SEMO and aspires to be a Nurse Practitioner.
