Soccer falls in Charleston to Southern Indiana

CHARLESTON, Ill. — Southeast Missouri State was defeated 2-0 by the University of Southern Indiana on Thursday.
Southeast Missouri State controlled much of the first half, leading with frequent offensive pressure through six corner kicks and seven shots. Despite numerous attempts, including two shots by Emma Cloud, Southern Indiana's goalkeeper Anna Markland made key saves to keep the visitors scoreless. Southern Indiana ( 8-7-4, 4-2-3 OVC) managed only two shots and faced an offside call, contributing to a scoreless draw at the end of the half.
Despite a strong defensive effort by Southeast Missouri State, the Screaming Eagles capitalized in the latter stages of the second half with goals in the 79th and 85th minutes. SEMO had several opportunities, including a penalty kick in the 63rd minute that was saved, and multiple shots on target, but were unable to convert. Southern Indiana took advantage of their 13-7 shot advantage to secure a 2-0 victory.
Madison Geisler recorded five saves in the match, providing a solid defensive effort. Emily Baker led the team in shots with four attempts, two of which were on target. Markovic contributed with two shots, including one on goal, applying pressure on the opposition's defense. Cloud added three shots, with one of them being on target, showcasing her involvement in the team's offensive plays.
SEMO wraps up its season with a 2-15-2 overall record and is 2-5-2 in conference play.
