Redhawks Edge Texas Woman’s in Home Opener Friday Behind Season-High Floor Rotation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Trailing by less than a point entering the final rotation of the evening, Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics utilized a 48.525 floor mark to edge Texas Woman's, 192.425-192.375 Friday night at Houck Field House.
 
Lydia Webb punctuated the Redhawks season-high floor score with a 9.800 in her SEMO debut. Webb, a freshman from Wylie, Texas, hit the routine in the anchor position to seal the comeback and finish fourth overall at the dual.
 
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso led the Redhawks on floor with a career-best 9.850 for third overall at the meet. Lindsey Bates added a 9.675 in her second straight meet competing on the discipline since 2018. Michael Sanders chipped in a 9.625 and Molly Maxwell rounded out the SEMO scorers with a 9.575.
 
Mallory Desch tallied a 9.475 in the fourth lineup slot.
 
Solorzano-Caruso paced the Redhawks on every event besides beam for three individual event titles Friday. The sophomore from Courtice, Ontario, Canada, captured the vault (9.850), bars (9.775) and all-around (39.200) titles Friday. It was the third straight meet, that Solorzano-Caruso had won the all-around crown and second consecutive 39.000 plus total. She has now won five events in 2021 and 14 in her career.
 
SEMO opened its home opener with a 48.475 on vault. Gabrielle Adams registered a 9.775 in the leadoff position for second at the meet behind Solorzano-Caruso's third career-high 9.850. Sanders compiled a 9.725 for fourth. Lydia Test improved on the event in her second career collegiate meet, finishing with 9.575. Makenzie Marciniak tallied a 9.550.
 
The Redhawks then posted a 46.925 on bars. Bates finished second on the event at the dual to Solorzano-Caruso with a 9.750. Jolie Miller added a 9.650.
 
SEMO rebounded in the third rotation, compiling a 48.500 on beam to set the team up for their comeback on floor.
 
Anna Speller led the Redhawks with a 9.775 in her third career collegiate meet competing on the event. The freshman from St. Louis, Missouri, finished third overall on the event with her personal-best mark.
 
Solorzano-Caruso registered a 9.725 in the anchor position for fourth at the dual. Maxwell and Fischer finished tied for fifth in the event standings with identical 9.675s to open the Redhawks beam rotation.
 
Miller rounded out the SEMO top-five with a 9.650 and Sanders had a 9.500.
 
Texas Woman's took a 144.625-143.900 advantage in the dual after a stellar floor score of 49.075 in the third rotation. Isabel Goyco hit a 9.900 to win the individual event. Madeline Gose was second overall at the meet on floor with 9.875.
 
TWU's Paige Stuyniski won beam with a 9.850.
 
SEMO next hits the road for three consecutive meets. The Redhawks face Illinois State on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Normal, Illinois, before competing in the six-team GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational on Feb. 12 at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. SEMO closes out the streak of away competitions with a dual against Lindenwood on Feb. 19.
