NORMAL, Ill. – Freshman
Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso was named the Midwest Independent Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. The honor marks the second in her career as a Redhawk.
Solorzano-Caruso captured three individual event titles as she finished in the top-three of every event she competed in during Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics double weekend in Tennessee and Louisiana.
The Courtice, Ontario, Canada native, won the all-around title this past Friday at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic against Northern Illinois with a personal-best score of 39.350. The mark tied head coach
Ashley Lawson (Godwin, 2/21/04) for fifth all-time in SEMO history.
Solorzano-Caruso tallied a pair of personal-best 9.850s on vault (second) and bars (second) before concluding the meet with 9.825s on beam (third) and floor (PR, second) for the career-high all-around total at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic.
On Sunday at Centenary, she topped the meet on both the bars with her second-consecutive career-best score of 9.850 and in the all-around (39.100). Solorzano-Caruso also posted a pair of 9.750s for second on vault and beam and was third on floor (9.750).
Illinois State's Gabrielle Cooke and Angelica Labat were both awarded MIC Gymnast of the Week and MIC Performance of the Week, respectively.
Southeast completes its three-week road stretch Friday when it travels to Lindenwood for a Tri Meet held at the Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. The Redhawks will compete against Lindenwood and Air Force Friday at 6 p.m. before returning home on March 13 for Senior Day at Houck Field House.
