CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Teona Velkoska and Vivian Lai captured the Austin Peay Fall Invitational Flight 2 Doubles title Saturday at the Governors Tennis Courts as Southeast Missouri women's tennis opened its fall season. Romana Tarajova finished as the runner-up in the Flight 1 Singles draw. 
 
In her first collegiate tennis meet, Lai teamed up with Velkoska to win the Flight 2 Doubles Championship with a perfect 3-0 record. The pair beat Zoe Wende of Western Kentucky and Sarah Brackin of Belmont, 6-2, after an opening round bye. 
 
In the semifinals, the duo then defeated Murray State's Marit Kreugel and Sara Loncarevic, 6-1, to advance to the finals. In the finals, Velkoska and Lai bested Laura Bernardos and Lucia Diaz Saez of Western Kentucky, 6-1. 
 
Tarajova, the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference women's Freshman of the Year, advanced to the Championships for the top singles flight. On Friday, the sophomore from Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, beat Belmont's Erin Allen, 6-1, 6-3. 
 
Tarajova then overcame Lauren Joch of WKU, 7-5, 6-4, and fought past Murray State's Natalie Slezakova, 3-6, 6-1, 10-1, in the semifinals. 
 
In the championship final, Tarajova fell to Austin Peay's Fabienne Schmidt, 6-4, 7-5. 
 
Lai also picked up her first career singles win, a 6-4, 6-4 decision on UT Martin's Mizuki Sakurai in the first singles flight.
 
Velkoska also won her opening round matchup Friday. She overcame WKU's Cora-Lynn Freiin Von Dungern, 6-3, 7-5, on Friday. 
 
In the consolation finals, Kseniya Zonova and Sneha Sinha won the flight 1 doubles consolation championship. After falling to Tristen Bryant-Otake and Lauren Joch of WKU, the duo defeated UT Martin's Mizuki Sakurai and Aziza Aubin and then Belmont's Erin Allen and Peyton Lee with consecutive scores of 6-1. 
 
Zonova and Sinha then edged Chattanooga's Polina Goloputova and Callie Billman, 6-4, in the consolation finals.
 
Sinha and Maja Lundell both finished as consolation runners-up in the second and third singles flights. 
 
Sinha fought past UT Martin's Jule Streif, 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-3, and then beat Cora-Lynn Freiin Von Dungern of WKU, 6-4, 7-5, to move on to the finals. 
 
Lundell beat Western Kentucky's Tristen Bryant-Otake, 6-3, 6-1, in the semifinals after overcoming UTM's Natasha Sijan to advance to the championship.
 
Southeast next heads to Conway, Arkansas, for the Central Arkansas Invitational Sept. 27-28.
