BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Anna Kaziska (beam and floor) and
Mackenzie Slee (vault) both advanced to Sunday's 2019 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships individual event finals after they finished in the top five Friday in the first session held at the Wheeler Recreation Center.
The duo are the second pair of Redhawks to advance to the USAGs National Championships individual event finals after
Alexis Brawner (vault) and
McKinzie Jones (beam) progressed through the 2018 Championships in Denton, Texas.
Kaziska and Slee will compete in Sunday's individual event finals at 12 p.m., CT.
Kaziska, the 2019 Midwest Independent Conference Newcomer of the Year and MIC Floor Runner-up, finished tied for second on floor with a 9.875 and tied for fourth on the balance beam with a mark of 9.800. She was also second overall in the first session for all-around with a total score of 39.025.
Slee, the 2019 MIC Vault Champion, captured a share of fourth on vault with a score of 9.775. She also registered a 9.550 on floor (22nd).
Gabrielle Adams and
Alana Fischer both competed in their second career USAGs National Championships on Friday.
Adams posted a 9.750 on vault to tie for eighth in the first session and Fischer compiled an all-around mark of 37.925 (seventh) behind a pair of 9.675s on bars (t-12
th) and beam (t-20
th). Fischer also had a vault of 9.425 (27
th) and a mark of 9.150 (t-27
th) on floor.
Kaziska started the first session with a 9.625 (t-18
th) on vault and was eighth in the uneven bars, matching her personal-best score of 9.725 (t-8
th).
Air Force was the top team in the first session with a team score of 194.825 followed by 2019 MIC Champion and NCAA Regional Qualifier Lindenwood with 194.800. Air Force and Lindenwood will face the top two teams from Friday's second session in the team finals Saturday at 6 p.m., CT.
