Walk This Way
Southeast Missouri walked 78 times this season, averaging seven per game. Connor Basler leads the team with 12 walks, followed closely by Tyler Wilber who has 11. SEMO pitchers have allowed just 33 walks, the fewest in the Ohio Valley Conference. This past weekend, the Redhawks walked 33 times, while SEMO pitchers issued just nine walks.
Hurts So Good
After leading the OVC in hit by pitch last season, SEMO is doing the same this year. Redhawk hitters have been plunked 20 times this season. Peyton Faulkner leads the team after being hit four times. Hunter Southerland and Alex Nielsen are close behind with three. In game two of their series against Western Illinois (Feb. 23), the Redhawks reached base five times by way of a hit by pitch.
The 2019 Campaign
The Redhawks are scheduled to play a total of 32 games at Capaha Field this 2019 season. Sixteen of Southeast Missouri's first 17 games, including the first seven of the season will be played in Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks face two Southeastern Conference foes in Vanderbilt and Missouri and one Big Ten opponent in Purdue. Southeast will face rivals Southern Illinois and Saint Louis twice this season. While Capaha Field is undergoing renovations, game times could be adjusted.
