SHREVEPORT, La. – Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics totaled a season high 190.275 for sixth at the 2019 Midwest Independent Conference Championships Friday evening at the Gold Dome on the campus of Centenary.
Mackenzie Slee tied for the vault crown with a personal best 9.825 for her first career individual event title and
Anna Kaziska, the 2019 MIC Newcomer of the Year, was second on floor with a mark of 9.875 as both earned First Team MIC All-Conference honors.
Slee and Kaziska also captured Second Team MIC All-Conference accolades for floor and vault, respectively. Slee tied for 10th overall on floor with a 9.800 and Kaziska had a vault score of 9.700 (17th).
Slee was seventh in the all-around with a career high 38.425 followed by Kaziska (eighth) who had 38.325.
Alana Fischer notched a total of 38.000 (10th) and
Michael Sanders had a score of 37.425 (11th) in the all-around.
Lindenwood and Illinois-Chicago tied for the 2019 MIC title with team scores of 195.350. With the title, Lindenwood has now won the MIC title for the fifth straight season.
Illinois State was third with 194.100 followed by Texas Woman's with 193.775 for fourth. Centenary was fifth with 190.575.
Southeast notched a 46.625 on bars to open the Championships. Kaziska and Fischer led the Redhawks with identical scores of 9.575.
Maya Tran added a career best tying 9.375.
In the second rotation, SEMO earned a 47.325 on beam before its first bye. Slee paced Southeast with a 9.650 followed by Fischer who posted a 9.625. Sanders had a 9.550 and
Gabrielle Adams added a 9.325.
The Redhawks then had a 48.200 in the fourth rotation on floor. Kaziska hit a team high 9.875 and Slee earned a 9.800. Fischer notched a 9.625.
Allyson Bell added a 9.550 and Sanders had a 9.350.
Southeast then concluded the Championships with a 48.125 on vault in the fifth rotation. Slee paced the Redhawks with a career best 9.825. Kaziska chipped in a 9.700. Sanders posted a 9.575 and Adams had a 9.550. Tran rounded out SEMO with a personal-best tying score of 9.475.
Southeast will now await the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Selection Show on Monday, March 25, to see where the team is pegged for NCAA Regionals April 4-6. The USAG Collegiate National Championship then follows Regionals April 12-14 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
