Series History
Southeast leads the all-time series against EIU, 25-20. The Redhawks are 10-11 at Lantz Arena, and the Panthers are 8-3 at home this season. The two teams faced off earlier this season in Cape Girardeau on January 26, when SEMO won 72-57. In the last game, Tesia Thompson posted 26 points and Jocelyn Taylor recorded 15 points. SEMO scored 34 points in the paint on the night.
How We Got Here
The Redhawks are currently 11-13 and 6-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season. Southeast Missouri had a three-game winning streak come to an end with a 91-57 setback at Belmont. SEMO swept SIUE with a 65-62 win in Edwardsville (Jan. 3) and 63-58 victory in Cape Girardeau (Jan. 24). It was the fifth OVC sweep under head coach Rekha Patterson and first against SIUE since 2013-14. Tesia Thompson leads the team with 16.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Carrie Shephard has 60 three-pointers this season and is fifth in single-season 3-pointers made at SEMO. The Redhawks forced 15-plus turnovers in 20 contests during the 2018-19 season, totaling 448 forced turnovers for the year. In OVC play, SEMO has forced 210 total turnovers as opponents are committing 16.2 per contest against the Redhawks.
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers are 10-14 overall with a 4-9 mark in OVC play. EIU is 8-3 at the Lantz Arena this season, but Southeast is 10-11 in Charleston in program history. The four conference wins have come against UT Martin (Jan. 3 | 77-71), Murray State (Jan. 17 | 75-67), Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 31 | 80--60) and at Austin Peay (Feb. 9 | 67-57). EIU averages 67.8 points, 34.9 rebounds and 16.7 turnovers per game.
