CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (0-2) continues its 2019 dual meet season Friday at 11 a.m. against Saint Louis (0-3) at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Illinois.
The Redhawks opened their 2019 campaign with a pair of losses in Columbia, Missouri, this past weekend against Arkansas State and Missouri.
Isabella Krupa and
Teona Velkoska enter Friday's dual with a perfect 2-0 doubles record at the no. 2 position. The duo fought past Arkansas State's Shelby King and Shannon O'Brien, 7-5, last Friday and then beat Mizzou's Marta Oliveira and Vivien Abraham, 6-2, last Saturday.
Romana Tarajova recorded the first Southeast dual singles win this season with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, decision over Pornpawee Pramethong of Arkansas State last Friday.
Krupa fought tough against Missouri's #60-ranked Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) player Lisa Fukutoku at no. 3 singles last Saturday. Krupa won the opening set, 7-6, before Fukutoku evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-1 second set. In the third set, Krupa was leading 3-0 before the match was stopped.
Last season, SEMO registered its first dual meet victory against SLU in over 17 years, 4-3, on Feb. 21, 2018 at the at St. Clair Tennis Club.
The Billikens are 0-3 in the early 2019 dual season with losses at Missouri and Arkansas along with a home setback against the Ohio Valley Conference's Eastern Illinois this past Sunday.
Southeast next ventures to Springfield, Missouri, for a pair of dual meets against Missouri State and Nebraska-Omaha on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16.
