CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Gabrielle Adams and
Anna Kaziska combined for three individual event titles as Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics posted a team score of 189.800 in its home opener Friday night against San José State in front of a packed Houck Field House crowd of 665. The Spartans totaled 193.225 to take the dual.
Adams tallied a vault of 9.775 to lead the Redhawks in the opening rotation and win her first event title in 2019. It was also her first score of 9.700 or higher this campaign.
In the third and fourth rotations, Kaziska registered event winning performances in the SEMO anchor position. Kaziska had a 9.825 on beam in the second to last rotation and then wowed the crowd with a personal-best floor mark of 9.900 to tie SJSU's Taylor Chan for the top floor spot at the meet.
Chan won the all-around crown with a 39.150 and Kaziska placed second with a career best 38.850.
Mackenzie Slee (37.850) and
Michael Sanders (37.050) also had personal high totals in the all-around.
Southeast compiled a 47.975 in the opening rotation on vault. Slee posted a career best 9.700 for fourth at the meet and Kaziska had a 9.625 for third on the team.
Alana Fischer added a 9.475 and Sanders had a 9.400.
The Redhawks then notched a 45.475 on bars.
Allyson Bell paced SEMO with a season best 9.575 for fourth at the dual. Kaziska chipped in a score of 9.500 for second on the team.
In the third rotation, Southeast registered a 47.925 on beam. Slee and Sanders each tallied scores of 9.625 to tie for second on the team (fifth at dual). Fischer had a 9.450 and Adams added a mark of 9.450.
The Redhawks had their best rotation of the night on floor to close out the dual with a 48.425. Slee was second behind Kaziska with a career best 9.800 to tie for third at the meet.
Kenna Skepnek opened the discipline with a career-best score of 9.750 for fifth at the meet and Adams was sixth with a 9.725.
Southeast next travels to Normal, Illinois, for a dual meet with Midwest Independent Conference foe, Illinois State, on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. The Redhawks then face Northern Illinois in their second home meet of 2019 on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Houck Field House.
