Southeast Tennis Faces TSU and Belmont in Pair of Weekend Duals in the Music City

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-7, 0-1 OVC) ventures to the Music City, Nashville, Tennessee, for a pair of weekend Ohio Valley Conference duals.

Southeast faces Tennessee State (10-3, 0-2 OVC) on Friday at 1 p.m., CT at Hadley Park and then takes on Belmont (4-10, 0-2 OVC) Saturday at the Ensworth HS Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Due to rain in the forecast for the Nashville area, Saturday's meet was rescheduled for earlier in the day and moved to an indoor location.

SEMO hosted Eastern Kentucky on Sunday in their OVC opener and its first meet of 2018 at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. Southeast fell to the Colonels, 6-1.

Oleksandra Doroshenko enters the weekend's dual meets on a four-match singles winning streak. Doroshenko racked up adidas® OVC Tennis Co-Female Athlete of the Week laurels after she notched a perfect 4-0 record this past week in singles and doubles with wins over Western Illinois and EKU.

On the doubles side, Doroshenko teamed up with fellow Kharkiv, Ukraine native, Kseniya Zonova, for the first time at Southeast last week. At the top doubles position, Doroshenko and Zonova defeated WIU's Natalia Bravo and Courtney Lubbers, 6-3, on Tuesday and then battled past Eastern Kentucky's Alexandra Belle and Lisa Friess, 6-3, on Sunday.

On Wednesday, March 13, despite being down a player, the Redhawks dropped a close decision to WIU, 4-3. Zonova, Alessandra Maya Thompson and Doroshenko all recorded singles wins at the dual in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Redhawks take on the Tigers in TSU's conference home opener on Friday. Tennessee State boasts a 10-4 overall record but dropped to Austin Peay and Murray State last weekend. The Tigers fell to APSU, 5-2, before losing 4-3 to Murray State. TSU was picked to finish 10th in the OVC in 2018.

Southeast then stays in town on Saturday to take on Belmont. The Bruins face UT Martin on Friday at the Centennial Sportsplex before facing SEMO at the Ensworth HS Tennis Center. Belmont like TSU also lost their opening weekend OVC dual meets to Austin Peay and MSU. The Bruins were chosen to place ninth in the league.
