Track & Field Closes Regular Season

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri's track and field teams closed out their busy weekend in final preparation for the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend.
On Friday, multiple throwers traveled north to compete int he Wisconsin Alumni Classic. Kayla Gutierrez recorded two fifth-place finishes, having top throws of 48.95m in discus and 53.31m in the hammer throw. In both respective events, Jessenia Ellis recorded marks of 41.11m and 43.47m. Gutierrez also took sixth in shot put with a top toss of 14.48m. In the same event, McKenna Baker's best toss measured 13.29m.
Catherine Hopkins also was able to record a fifth-place finish in javelin with a distance of 30.36m. On the men's end, Richard Vinson was able to claim first with a throw measuring 54.45m.
Logan Blomquist earned fifth in discus with throw of 49.77m. He would follow with season-best marks in both hammer (54.26m) and shot put (16.35m).
Saturday, other Redhawk student-athletes competed at the Ole Miss Classic. Nick South recorded a height of 15' 1" (4.60m) in pole vault to finish seventh while Sierra Maddox took eighth at 12' .75" (3.68m).
Tre Curry leapt 22' 11.25" (6.99m) in the long jump to finish second.
In the 1500m, Dan Plunkett recorded a time of 4:04.57.
South also appeared in the 110m hurdles, placing fourth at 15.19.
Jordan Barber recorded a time of 50.42 to take eighth in the 400m. In the women's hurdle portion of the event, Miya Dorsey clocked a time of 1:03.00 to take second.
In the 100m, Zach Gordon had a time of 10.53. He would return to take third in the 200m, with the sixth-best time in school history at 21.11.
Megan Parks took second in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:13.34. Kameron Long sixth on the men's end at 1:53.28 while Jordan Brown took eighth (1:53.39).
Kaitlyn Shea set a new outdoor school record in the 3000m with a time of 10:13.59. Sydney O'Brien and Natalie Kopplin also had strong showings in the event, clocking times of 10:34.31 and 10:35.36, respectively.
The Redhawks will travel to Oxford, Alabama for the OVC Outdoor Championships next weekend, May 11-13.
