CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri (13-5, 5-2) ends its regular season at home with a pair of matches this weekend. The Redhawks host Eastern Illinois (12-7, 4-3) Friday at 2 p.m., CT, and SIU Edwardsville (16-0, 6-0) Saturday at 10 a.m.
"We are looking to continue playing solid tennis this weekend," said head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. "Both matches are winnable as long as we come out focused and hungry to win. Although we have already clinched a spot in the OVC Tournament, it would be nice to earn a higher seed as we end our season."
SEMO won eight of its last 10 matches, only losing to Eastern Kentucky and UT Martin in that span. Freshman Oleksan Doroshenko enters the weekend with a 14-4 record at the No. 2 singles position. Doroshenko has also paired with sophomore
Isabella Krupa at the top of the doubles lineup, earning a 13-5 record this spring.
EIU visits Cape Friday having lost three of six. Senior Kelly Iden collected a 13-5 record in singles at the No. 1 position. Junior Grace Summers had added double-digit wins (10) at No. 2.
The Cougars are undefeated this season, collecting big wins over Saint Louis, Butler, Northern Illinois and Missouri State. SIUE is led by senior Lexi Aranda who is 13-2 at the top of the lineup. Aranda is on a 12-match winning streak.
