CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Southeast Missouri (11-4, 3-1) defeated Austin Peay (5-6, 3-1), 5-2, Friday, handing the Governors their first Ohio Valley Conference loss.
SEMO took an early lead, winning two out of three matches in doubles.
Isabella Krupa and
Oleksandra Doroshenko collected at 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup.
Kseniya Zonova and
Anais Emelie clinched the doubles point by winning 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres later fell, 6-0, at No. 3.
The Redhawks finished out the match with four singles victories. Zonova (No. 3),
Annisa Warasanti (No. 4), Majtan (No. 5) and Emelie (No. 6) each won their matches in straight sets. Zonova's win marks her third-straight victory and moves her spring record to 11-3. Krupa and Doroshenko dropped their matches at the No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
"This was a big win for us today," said head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. "The team did a great job representing SEMO on the court. They came out with big energy and fought hard to get the win."
SEMO heads to Murray State for a 2 p.m., CT, matchup Saturday.
