Redhawks Hit the Road for Two Matches

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri's women's tennis team closes out its road schedule with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend.

The Redhawks face off against Austin Peay (5-5, 3-0) Friday ( Murray State (5-7, 2-1) Saturday. Both matches start at 2 p.m., CT.

"We have two tough matches ahead of us this weekend," said head coach Mary Beth Gunn. "So far, we have had success in the tight moments, and we are looking to keep building on that."

SEMO is currently 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the OVC this season. It is only the seventh time in the school's NCAA Division I history that the Redhawks have won 10 or more matches in a season. It is also the first time in 10 years SEMO has collected 10 or more wins.

The Redhawks are led by freshmen Oleksandra Doroshenko and Kseniya Zonova. Doroshenko and Zonova have combined for 40 total victories in 14 matches this season.

APSU is led by defending OVC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Lidia Yanes Garcia. Garcia is 8-2 at the top of the lineup and is a perfect 3-0 in conference play. She is currently on a five-match winning streak.

Sophomore Claire Chang leads the Racers with a combined 6-4 record between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She has won her last four matches, including all three in conference.
