RICHMOND, Ky. -- Freshman
Oleksandra Doroshenko posted her 10th victory of the season in Southeast Missouri's, 4-3, loss to Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky Saturday.
EKU took an early 1-0 advantage after sweeping SEMO in doubles.
Isabella Krupa and Doroshenko, put up a fight at the top of the lineup but fell, 6-3.
Kseniya Zonova and
Anais Emelie (No. 2) dropped their match 6-1.
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres rounded out the lineup with a 6-2 loss at the No. 3 position.
The Redhawks battled back in singles, winning three matches. Krupa (No.1), Doroshenko (No. 2) and Majtan (No. 5) each picked up a victory for Southeast. Zonova (No. 3), Warasanti (No. 4) and Emelie (No. 6) all fought hard in their matches but lost in the end.
"I am super proud of the way our team played today," said head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. "We were in the match the entire time. Even though we lost, I think it's a confidence boost to the team knowing that we can compete with the top teams in the conference."
SEMO will return home next weekend with a pair of matches against Tennessee State (3/24) and Belmont (3/25).
