NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri and Vanderbilt University played to a scoreless tie Tuesday evening in exhibition play.

Southeast was held to zero shots in the first half but picked up the offensive output in the second, getting off six shots. Southeast saw 18 total players including seven freshmen.

The Redhawks and Commodores played a scoreless first half. The Redhawks were held to no shots while Vanderbilt put up seven total shots, three of which were on goal.

Starting goalkeeper
Kindra Lierz exited the match in the sixth minute following a collision in the box. Freshman
Maddie Gleeson stepped in goal and recorded all three saves of the first half.

Vanderbilt found the back of the net on a great setup play but was called offsides, wiping the goal off in the 14
th minute. In the 25
th minute, Vanderbilt came up empty on three-consecutive corner kicks, not even getting a shot off. Â

The Redhawks began quickly advancing downfield following Vanderbilt's only foul of the half that came at midfield but ran out of time as the clock expired on the period.

The Commodores had five corner kick opportunities in the half while the Redhawks didn't have any. SEMO was called for three fouls.

Southeast came out in the second half firing.
Esmeralda Gonzales wasted no time getting a shot off that went wide left, Southeast's first shot of the night. Gonzales put a free kick on goal in the 54
th minute but it was saved by VU's Kaitlyn Farhner.

Vanderbilt had its best chance for a goal in the 71
st minute. Brooke Colangelo took a shot at an open SEMO goal, catching Lierz out of position. The Redhawk defense earned a team save as they cleared the shot in the middle of the net.

Paige Blankenheim placed her lone shot of the match on goal in the 82
nd minute but couldn't find the back of the net.

SEMO finished the second half with six total shots with three going on goal. Vanderbilt added nine shots in the half, finishing the match with 16.

Southeast picked up five corner kick opportunities in the half, finishing with just one shy of Vandy in the match, 6-5.

Lierz totaled 51 minutes in goal with two saves while Gleeson saw 39 minutes and three saves.

Gonzales was responsible for three of the Redhawks' six shots. Sasha Gray had four shots while Lydia Simmons added three to lead the Commodores.

Farhner played the match in its entirety in goal for Vanderbilt, picking up three saves.

Southeast Missouri will open the 2016 season next Friday, Aug. 19, at the University of Tennessee.
