CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri (1-16, 0-7) fell to Eastern Kentucky (12-8, 7-0), 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
For the second consecutive match, Southeast was at a disadvantage due to an injury to
Anais Emelie that forced the Redhawks to forfeit the bottom spot of the lineup in both singles and doubles play.
EKU claimed the doubles point, but Southeast fought hard and made the Colonels earn each victory.
Isabella Krupa and
Annisa Warasanti (No.1) lost, 6-4, to Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo after being down, 5-1, early. At the No. 2 position,
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres led, 4-3, over Viktorija Demcenkova and Margaux Lacroix before falling, 6-4.
In singles play, Majtan collected the Redhawks only victory in straight sets, beating Demcenkova, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. Krupa fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Argente at the top of the lineup. Warasanti dropped her match with Corentine Bodin, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3.
Emilia Montenegro (No. 4) and Torres (No. 5) were both swept in their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
Southeast hosts Morehead State in its final home match of the season at 2 p.m., CT, Saturday.
