Redhawks Best Cougars At Gateway Classic

EDWARDSVILLE, MO - Southeast Missouri's track & field teams both were victorious at the Gateway Classic hosted by SIUE Saturday. The men's team scored 87 points while the women scored 82.
Mariam Ajiroba took first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.83 seconds. Cheyenne Tunti took third at 12.20 while Chelsea Miller took sixth (12.83).
The Redhawk women earned the top three 200m dash times with Tunti (24.76), Ajiroba (25.07) and Sidne' Willamson (26.29) placing first, second and third, respectively.
Megan Parks finished first in the 800m run at 2:15.12. Kaitlyn Shea took third at 2:23.00.
In the women's 1500m run, Angela Sumner earned first with the time 4:42.50. Sydney O'Brien earned the next Redhawk finish in fifth at 4:59.50. Following her was Natalie Kopplin (4.5:08.63), Rachel Hutchcraft (5:13.68) and Madalyn Gaul (6:01.31).
Kennedy Roderick earned the top Redhawk time in the 3000m at 12:19.52.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Anna Thomas placed first at 11:45.91 followed by Lindsey Seabaugh (11:56.31) and Andrea George (12:38.62).
The women's 4x100m relay team of Heidelberg, Tunti, Willamson and Ajiroba earned a first place finish by clocking a time of 47.74. The 4x400m team of Shea, Parks, Thomas and Kopplin took second in their race, earning a time of 4:16.45.
In women's field events, Chante Mosby won the high jump with a height of 1.65m.
Willamson earned the top long jump mark of 5.55m. Heidelberg followed at 5.26m.
N'Kia Jones placed third in triple jump, leaping 11.60m.
Aaliah Herron tossed the shot put 14.03m for second. Paden Wachter (12.33m), McKenna Baker (11.98m) and Catherine Hopkins (11.49m) also participated.
In discus, Wachter claimed third with a throw of 41.19m. Herron took fourth closely behind (41.05m) while Baker finished sixth (33.27m).
Wachter again competed in the hammer throw, finishing third with a distance of 48.22m. Baker also had a toss measuring 37.69m.
Taylor Coffelt took first in javelin (41.28m) while Hopkins followed in second (32.95m).
On the men's side, Haile Wilson took first in the 100m dash (10.74).
Brandon Chunn placed first in the 400m (49.12).
Jordan Brown (1:54.92) and Kameron Long (1:55.34) captured second and third in the 800m run, respectively. Cole Davis (1:56.26) and Nick Yaeger (2:04.62) also competed.
For the men's 1500m, Redhawks took the top six times as Nathan Cook led the pack clocking a time of 3:59.73. Craig Munie had the next best time in second at 4:02.93.
Marc Maton earned another first-place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 8:26.04. Jamie Zarate also clocked a time of 9:02.90.
Ty Crowden finished with a time of 58.05 in the 400m hurdles.
Jace Mortimer finished first (9:49.97) while Tyler Beaman took second (9:51.25) in the 3000m steeplechase.
In men's relays, three Redhawk squads ran in the 4x400m relay. The unit of Barber, Chunn, Jarred Pasely and Brannon Wright finished first with the time of 3:12.52.
The men's high jump was won by Dalton Huffman with a mark of 1.85m.
Dylan Rush followed with his own first-place finish in pole vault (5.02m).
Zach Gordon (7.23m), Tre Curry (6.81m), Christopher Davis (5.89m) finished second, third and fourth in long jump, respectively.
Kevin Farley earned a season-best shot put throw of 18.69m. Stephen Zagurski (third; 14.47m) and Jason Walker (fourth; 14.42m) threw as well.
Farley followed with a 54.91m throw in discus for first. Walker took second at 50.29m while Zagurski threw 44m for fifth.
Taking his third first-place finish of the day, Farley threw the hammer 61.32m.
The Redhawks track & field teams return to action in Atlanta, Georgia next weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
