CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --Â Southeast Missouri (1-14, 0-5) dropped its home opener to Austin Peay (3-8, 2-3) by a score of 6-1 Friday.
The Redhawks lost a heartbreaker in doubles early in the match.
Annisa Warasanti and
Emilia Montenegro fell at the top of the lineup, 6-0, to Lidia Yanes-Garcia and Helena Kuppig.
Isabella Krupa and
Anais Emelie fought their way back to a 6-4 victory after falling behind, 4-2, to Claudia Yanes-Garcia and Brittney Covington. In the final match,
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres played a back-and-forth match against Isabela Jovanovic and Hannah Tatlock. Majtan and Canahuate-Torres came up short, 7-6, in a tiebreaker at the No. 3 position.
Montenegro picked up the lone victory in singles, beating Covington, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot. Warasanti lost in a hard fought three-set match to Kuppig, 6-3, 5-7, 6-10, at No. 3. Canahuate-Torres battled at the No. 6 position with Jovanovic, dropping the match, 6-3, 7-5. Krupa (No. 1), Majtan (No. 2) and Emelie (No.4) all lost in straight sets.
Southeast resumes play tomorrow against Murray State. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m., CT.
