SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri (1-6) dropped a 6-1 decision to Missouri State (4-10) Sunday.

Isabella Krupa secured Southeast's only point with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Anelisse Torrico Moreno in No. 2 singles. Mariya Kostiuk (No. 1), Mila Majtan (No. 3), Viviana Ortiz (No. 4), Annisa Warasanti (No. 5) and Emilia Montenegro (No. 6) completed the Redhawks singles lineup. Majtan lost a close three-set match to Miranda Poile, 6-3, 5-7, 7-10, while Warasanti fell to Faty Khamissi, 7-5 (8), 6-3. Montenegro and Phoebe Boeschen also squared off in a tighly contested match that resulted in Boeschen winning 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Kostiuk and Warasanti lost to Ema Turudija and Poile by a count of 6-2. Krupa then teamed up with Majtan to beat Boeschen and Moreno, 6-2. The Bears, however, won the point when Khamissi and Abbey Belote battled back to post a close 7-6 victory over Ortiz and Montenegro at the No. 3 position.

"We had opportunities to take the match, but it didn't fall our way," said Southeast head coach Mary Beth Gunn. "The doubles came down to the No. 3 spot, where we had match points but we couldn't finish. Krupa came out strong in singles and we also had very close matches at 3, 5 and 6. We are going to continue to work on our mental toughness to be strong in the pressure points."

Southeast returns to action when it hosts Maryville University in its home-opener Thursday. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m., CT, at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
